Volvo V60 estate – Reliability & safety
Volvo is at the cutting-edge of safety technology, while reliability looks promising
Volvo cars are arguably the safest on the road, with impressive technology to not only protect you in a crash, but increasingly to prevent one from happening in the first place. Customers are mostly a happy bunch, too, placing the brand 16th out of 32 manufacturers in our 2024 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey.
Volvo V60 reliability
Volvo has performed favourably in the last few annual Driver Power surveys, but a higher-than-average number of owners experienced a fault within the first year of ownership in the 2024 edition. 26% of owners reported something going wrong, which is more than BMW but on par with Mercedes. The fact the V60’s 2.0-litre engines and basic technology are shared with the XC90, V90, and XC60 is good news, as any issues found in those models should have been rectified here.
Taking into account all of the categories in the Driver Power survey, BMW still comes out on top in the eyes of owners, but Volvo is still several spots ahead of Mercedes.
Safety
Volvo has built its reputation on keeping drivers and pedestrians safe, and there’s too much standard safety equipment to list here. The fact this car has scored another five-star rating from Euro NCAP speaks volumes for the safety of the car. Highlights of the equipment in the V60 include the latest evolution of City Safety, that can automatically brake the car if a vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist or large animal is detected, and also help you steer around it.
