Hot car deal: Fun-focused BMW 128ti hot hatch for £309 a month

The most driver-focused model in BMW’s 1 Series lineup can be yours for just £309 a month

BMW 128ti front quarter

The BMW 128ti stands out in the German marque’s lineup, providing a sporty edge but without the iconic ‘M’ badge. While the M135i boasts more power and speed, the 128ti could be the ideal hatchback for enthusiasts seeking a mix of quality, practicality and, above all, driving enjoyment. A rival to the Volkswagen Golf GTI, the BMW 128ti serves up an equally engaging experience from behind the wheel, and with this lease deal you’ll be paying similar money, too.

What’s so good about this BMW 128ti deal?

This four-year deal from Hippo Leasing stood out to us with its monthly payments of just £308.87. Sure, it’s possible to find a regular five-door hatchback for less money, but few cars offer both the fun driving experience and the premium cabin of the BMW 128ti. A rival Mercedes-AMG A 35 is likely to command north of £400 a month, while the Volkswagen Golf GTI can be had for similar money, but you’ll miss out on the desirable Bavarian badge on the bonnet.

Under said bonnet you get a 261bhp 2.0-litre engine connected to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, good for launching the 128ti from 0-62mph in a hair over six seconds. There are other performance upgrades elsewhere, transforming the regular 1 Series into a thrilling hot hatchback without compromising its luxurious and practical interior. You’ll even get around 38mpg if you’re sensible with your right foot.

The £308.87 a month deal commands an upfront payment of £3,706.44, but this can be decreased by upping the monthly payments instead. Similarly, the 5000 miles per year limit can be increased by paying slightly more upfront and each month. Whichever way you cut it, we think it's a lot of German performance car for the money.

What’s so good about the BMW 128ti?

The BMW 128ti proves that the German marque knows what it’s doing when it comes to making driver’s cars – be it a 600bhp super-saloon or a front-wheel drive hot hatchback. Unlike its rivals, the 128ti is resolutely old-school, with no suspension modes to worry about or complex electronic trickery. Instead, it’s set up for maximum fun from the moment you turn the key, with sweet steering and a lively engine. It has no problem handling everyday driving duties, too, featuring the same high-quality, spacious cabin as the regular 1 Series. We know that the sporty red decals may not be to everyone’s taste, but if you’re after a premium hot hatchback, there are few better options at this price.

Anything else I need to know about this deal?

This is a lease deal, often referred to as Personal Contract Hire (PCH), so there’s no option to buy the car at the end of the contract. You are effectively renting the car for the four-year term, but the deal is very flexible so you can adjust the term length, mileage limit and initial payment size to suit, but only at the outset. Once the deal is over, you just hand the keys back and start looking for your next car.

Our hot deals are carefully selected by our car buying experts and they are all subject to change. Always read the full terms and conditions and make sure the car and the deal suits your needs before proceeding.
