BMW X6 SUV - Practicality & boot space

There's a trade-off for that roof but it's not as much as you might think

Practicality & boot space Rating

3.5 out of 5

Despite its more rakish roof, the BMW X6 is still a big vehicle, so most owners will find there's plenty of space for family, luggage and long trips away. That also means it's not the most manoeuvrable thing around town, and you may find that the swept back style reduces how much you can see out of the rear window.

BMW X6 interior space & storage

There's plenty of room in the front and back of the X6 for adults to stretch out, and even the middle rear seat is better than you may expect. It's relatively flat and the transmission tunnel is reasonably compact, leaving some room for your feet. Rear passengers can also enjoy a large central armrest (when the middle seat is vacant) and optional rear seat entertainment, courtesy of two screens mounted on the front backrests.

Boot space

The coupe-like silhouette doesn’t have as much impact on the boot as you may expect, particularly if you never stack luggage above the parcel shelf. Its dimensions are reduced from 645 litres in the BMW X5 to 580 litres here, which, for reference, is still 200 litres more than in the boot of a Volkswagen Golf. The boot space is broadly similar to its nearest rivals; all will swallow their fair share of suitcases or golf clubs.
