New Cupra Formentor mid-life facelift inbound for 2024
The updated Cupra Formentor has been spotted testing for the first time in these spy shots
The Cupra Formentor coupe-SUV is set to get a mid-life refresh in 2024, with tweaked interior and exterior styling. The Formentor is an important car for the brand, being Cupra’s first standalone model that helped to differentiate it from sister brand SEAT. It’s also become Cupra’s most popular car, so the Spanish firm will be keen to carry on its success with the latest revisions.
The update will only bring a moderate refresh of the car’s styling and interior, given that the Formentor was only released in 2020, but appears to be focused on the front end. The shape of the Formentor’s grille, bumper and side air intakes will change, and we’d expect the headlights to get three signature triangle LEDs as seen on the upcoming Cupra Tavascan and Terramar, as well as the UrbanRebel city car concept.
The Cupra Formentor has already been spotted out during testing, having been snapped in our latest spy shots taken at the Nurburgring. In the pictures the side and rear of the car is left undisguised and these areas don’t appear to have undergone any major changes.
It’s expected that the updated Cupra Formentor’s cabin will likely adopt the latest VW Group technology. New alloy wheel and interior trim options may be introduced in the refresh, too, although this is yet to be confirmed.
MG4 vs Cupra Born – which should you buy?
Formentor models are expected to keep a similar interior layout, with the 12-inch central touchscreen and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay likely to stay the same for the new model. We do hope the touch sensitive climate control slider gets a backlight to make it easier to use at night, however.
Engine lineup details have not been released, but top-of-the-line 306bhp 2.0-litre versions could get a power increase to match that of the 316bhp Volkswagen Golf R, which uses an evolution of the same turbocharged petrol engine engine.
Sales for the updated Cupra Formentor are expected to start in spring 2024 – the outgoing Cupra Formentor starts from £31,300 for the entry-level 148bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder V1, but we’d expect prices to increase by a small amount for the facelift.
