Hyundai Kona Electric - Interior & comfort (2019-2023)
High specification plus a quiet and comfortable ride make the Kona Electric a pleasure to travel in
With a heavy battery pack and electric motor to carry around, the Kona Electric's suspension does a surprisingly good job of keeping the body under control without sacrificing ride quality. Passengers remain comfortable when negotiating the worst potholes British roads can offer, which adds to the calm, relaxed atmosphere inside. If anything, there's even less motor noise than in the earlier Kona Electric, with just a faint whine under acceleration.
There's not a lot of difference between the interior of the Kona Electric and its conventionally fuelled sisters. Perhaps the most notable change is the lack of a gear selector – its place on the flat, metallic centre console is taken by simple buttons for drive, reverse and neutral. A 10.25-inch touchscreen floats above the dashboard, is easy to use and boasts some of the quickest responses and best graphics in the class. For the facelift, the analogue instrument panel has also been replaced by a large central colour display.
The Premium model adds heated seats, front parking sensors, automatic wipers, folding door mirrors and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The Ultimate trim brings adaptive cruise control, heated rear seats, leather upholstery and ventilated front seats. Driver convenience is enhanced by a head-up display and auto-dipping headlights. It's an impressive roster but then the Kona Electric is an expensive car in Ultimate trim.
The entry-level SE Connect trim is available only with the 39kWh battery, Premium can be chosen with 39 or 64kWh and Ultimate is limited to the 64kWh battery.
