Range Rover Evoque review - Reliability & safety
Five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and Land Rover's reputation for reliability
With a number of safety upgrades and new engine options over the previous model, we expect the new Evoque will be safe and reliable, especially given its premium price tag.
The Range Rover Evoque finished in 39th place out of the top 50 models in the 2024 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, scoring highly for its exterior design and ride and handling, but coming dead last in terms of running costs, while value for money and reliability were also some of its worst categories as rated by owners.
The Evoque received a full five-star rating when it was tested by Euro NCAP. It features plenty of standard safety equipment, so you don’t need to dive into the options list to get them.
Range Rover Evoque reliability
In terms of overall customer satisfaction, Land Rover as a brand doesn’t perform too badly. In 2024, it came in 10th out of 32 manufacturers, with owners rating it highly for its interior and exterior designs, as well as fit and finish, drive, handling and practicality. The problem is, Land Rover has one of the worst reliability ratings of any of the brands in the survey, with over 40% of owners reporting an issue with their Land Rover in the first year. Running costs are also an issue, with insurance premiums for Land Rovers in particular through the roof.
Safety
Euro NCAP awarded the Evoque five stars when it tested the car in early 2019. That overall score was achieved thanks in part to a 94% score in the adult occupant category, and an impressive 87% rating for child occupant protection.
Even the unnamed base model features emergency braking, a driver alert sensor, lane-keep assist, a brake pad wear indicator and a pedestrian airbag. Traffic-sign recognition, an adaptive speed limiter, a clear exit monitor with more tech available if you upgrade to one of the higher trim levels. Top HSE models also include blind-spot assist, high-speed emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
