Mercedes S-Class Coupe - Interior & comfort (2014-2020)
The coupe has carried over all the luxurious materials and tech from the saloon
The interior ambience of the S-Class Coupe is dictated by its smart, hi-tech dashboard, but is characterised by astonishing quietness and smoothness when in motion. Settle back into either of the four huge contoured leather chairs and the Mercedes does its best to insulate you from the world outside – a motorway cruise sees the engine turning at only 1,500rpm, with very little noise permeating the passenger compartment, unless you ask for it by pressing the accelerator.
That said, you do still feel a little of what the road surface throws at you, those huge tyres and that clever suspension can't entirely disguise what's going on beneath you. It never becomes uncomfortable, though, and serves only to remind that you're in motion.
Mercedes S-Class Coupe dashboard
The interior environment is almost entirely shared with the S-Class saloon, but that's no bad thing, as it means one of the most celebrated dashboards you can buy. Centre of attention is the two 12.3-inch high-resolution display screens, which extend to incorporate the driver's instrument panel and the infotainment display in one near-seamless expanse.
All this technology is presented on a backdrop of padded leather and polished aluminium that's applied in all the places most likely to be seen or touched, all helping to create an atmosphere of quality and thorough engineering. It's backed up by functionality, too – the voice-recognition system enables hands-free control of a huge range of features, from making call to setting an interior fragrance or dialling up a more energetic seat massage.
Options
The S-Class Coupe wouldn't seem like a Mercedes without a lengthy options list, and the tantalising add-ons include night vision, carbon ceramic brakes and 20-inch alloy wheels. However, the further up the S-Class Coupe range you head, the fewer options remain, and the S 65 has virtually every possibility fitted as standard. This extends to a massive 24-speaker Burmester stereo, in-car internet access, TV, Swarovski crystal headlights, adaptive cruise control and the night vision camera.
Every model, meanwhile, enjoys electric memory seats, COMAND infotainment, LED headlamps and alloy wheels at least 19-inches across.
