BMW X4 2014 price & release date
All the latest information on the BMW X4, due to be launched in 2014
The new BMW Concept X4 has been revealed at the LA Motor Show. Although based on the BMW X3 SUV, the X4 has sportier looks and a slightly less spacious cabin, just like the larger BMW X6 compares to the company’s larger BMW X5 SUV.
The X4 slots below the X5 and X6 in the range and should be more fun to drive than the X3.
BMW X4 price & release date
The X4 is close to being production-ready, so we expect it to go on sale in the first half of next year for a price of around £30,000. BMW expects to sell two X4s for every five X3s.
BMW X4 specs & design
The X4 has a coupe shape with raised suspension, which indicates that it will be more fun to drive than the BMW X3 SUV.
The sleeker looks mean that the X4 will lose some of the X3’s practicality, though, and boot space is likely to drop from 550 litres to around 500 litres. Rear-seat headroom should also be slightly reduced.
Although no pictures of the interior have been released, the X4 will use many of the components found in the X3, in an effort to keep on top of costs. For that reason, we can expect the dashboard to be near identical.
The X4 will be available with two and four-wheel drive for added grip in slippery conditions. As the X3 has a five-star Euro NCAP rating, we would expect the X4 to follow suit.
The X4 will probably use the same engines as the X3. That means the basic X4 will come equipped with a 181bhp, 2.0-litre diesel engine, while models higher up the range will get a 254bhp, 3.0-litre diesel that will be faster but slightly less fuel-efficient. The 2.0-litre engine should return around 55mpg, with CO2 emissions of close to 135g/km for road tax of £125 annually.
