New Citroen Grand C4 Picasso goes on sale in UK
The seven-seat MPV is more spacious and more efficient for 2014
The new Citroen Grand C4 Picasso is now on sale in the UK and prices start at £19,200 for the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol model.
First unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last September, the seven-seat MPV continues the design ethos of the modern Citroen range, with narrow front lights and a large manufacturer’s badge that forms the thin front grille.
Inside the car, a longer wheelbase means there is more room than in the previous model. Citroen claims class-leading space for passengers in the second and third rows, with the boot able to accommodate 632 litres of luggage - significantly more than rivals like the Ford S-Max and Renault Grand Scenic.
The new dashboard comes with plenty of modern technology, as Citroen has included both a seven-inch touchpad and a 12-inch panoramic screen. The smaller screen is used to control functions like air-con, audio and sat-nav, with the bigger screen acting as a high definition display.
Two models in the new Grand C4 Picasso range are capable of sub-100g/km CO2 emissions thanks to Citroen’s efficient diesel ‘Airdream’ engines and a 100kg weight saving on the outgoing model.
In total, there are 16 different versions of the Grand C4 Picasso available and most of them use diesel engines – only the three petrol versions produce more than 120g/km of CO2. The e-HDI 90 Airdream model fitted with a 1.5-litre diesel engine and six-speed manual gearbox returns impressive economy figures of 74.3mpg and 98g/km CO2, meaning it’s exempt from road tax.
The new car achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating and features a range of safety equipment including active cruise control, an anti-collision warning system, a lane departure warning system and an ultrasonic blind spot warning system.
The new Grand C4 Picasso is available in four trim levels, starting with basic VTR, mid-range VTR+ and Exclusive, and top-of-the-range Exclusive+. Prices start at £19,200 and rise to £27,855 for the automatic 2.0-litre diesel Exclusive+ model.
