Mercedes S-Class coupe prices revealed
The Mercedes S-Class Coupe will be priced from £124,715 when it goes on sale in September
Mercedes has revealed the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe will start from £124,715 for the 577bhp S63 AMG coupe, when the car goes on sale in September.
Although the £183,065 621bhp S65 AMG represents the range flagship, an entry-level £96,565 449bhp S500 will arrive in showrooms in early 2015.
All models come fitted with Active Parking Assist with a reversing camera, a panoramic roof, 12.3-inch TFT display and Mercedes’ COMAND Online infotainment system. The S-Class coupe also is fitted with Mercedes’ Magic Vision Control system, which sends water through the car’s wipers (rather than bonnet mounted jets) to clean the windscreen.
The S63 adds to the standard kit list with the Seat Comfort pack – including heated and cooled front seats with a massage function – Mercedes’ super comfortable Magic Body Control suspension, and a powerful Burmester surround-sound stereo. The S65 gets even more toys including a fighter jet-style head-up display, TV Tuner, and a 360-degree camera. Night View Assist, which gives an infrared view of the road at night, is another addition.
Mercedes has also provided a full and lengthy options list. That includes the £4,995 Premium Package that’s available for the S500 and brings it closer to the specification of the more expensive models. It includes 20-inch alloy wheels, illuminated doorsills, the Seat Comfort Pack, Keyless-Go, Burmester stereo, and a 360-degree camera. Air Balance – a system that removes pollutants from the air and fragrances it with a choice of perfumes – is also included.
Adding visual aggression to your S500 is the £5,000 AMG Exterior Carbon-fibre Package. It brings sporty carbon-fibre elements to the outside of the car, while the AMG Night Package (£765) provides an AMG sports exhaust system with two black chrome exhaust pipes.
Further options include the £4,030 panoramic roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL (which turns the glass opaque at the touch of a button), a refrigerated compartment in the rear (£1,130), and red brake calipers (£620).
New Mercedes S-Class coupe details
As you can see from the pictures of the car at the Geneva motor show, the car gets a distinctive front grille, with a large Mercedes badge in the centre. It also has more prominent, sculpted lines running down the bonnet and the side to give it a more aggressive look than the Mercedes S-Class saloon on which it's based.
The car’s powerful all-LED headlights, meanwhile, feature 47 Swarovski crystals and will be some of the most elaborate headlights around when the car goes on sale. The coupe also has pillarless doors, for better access to the rear seats and a more stylish look, while the rear lights are also full LEDs.
Inside, the Mercedes S-Class coupe looks similar to the saloon, although it gets three new interior colours – Bengal Red, Saddle Brown, and Porcelain. The dashboard features two large TFT screens, which allow Mercedes to cut down on buttons, and there’s plenty of exposed leather and metal to create a luxury feel. The seats have an exclusive diamond-quilted finish and there's a new, more sporty three-spoke steering wheel.
The Mercedes has a hi-tech innovative touchpad system, which has intuitive smartphone controls, and can also recognise hand-written characters.
New Mercedes S-Class coupe specs
Sitting at the top of the Mercedes line-up means the S-Class coupe comes loaded with equipment including a panoramic sunroof, which can transform from clear to opaque at the touch of a button, and a host of safety features including PRE-SAFE, which will brake the car if it detects a collision is about to happen. It also adds adaptive cruise control that can keep a safe distance from (and match the speed of) the car in front, and Active Lane Keeping Assist, which guides the car into its lane with gentle steering inputs.
The coupe will also be available with a host of options including Magic Body Control (MBC) suspension, which uses cameras to monitor the road surface, and adjusts the car’s suspension accordingly. In the coupe, MBC also incorporates lean control, which allows the car to push its weight in a corner – much like a motorcyclist – for added cornering speed. Other options include a 3D Burmester premium stereo and a hot-stone massage function for the seats.
New Mercedes S-Class engines
The Mercedes S500 coupe comes equipped with a 4.7-litre engine that produces 449bhp and should get the car from 0-60mph in around 4.5 seconds. Although exact figures have yet to be revealed, the coupe should return economy close to the S-Class saloon’s 31.7mpg. The S500 is likely to be joined later by the performance-orientated S63 AMG – which is due to be shown at the New York Motor Show in April. There could also be a range-topping S65 AMG model too.
New Mercedes S-Class coupe price and release date
Expected to go on sale in October, prices for the Mercedes S500 have not been announced – but are likely to start at around £100,000. Prices for the S63 and S65 AMG performance versions are also unconfirmed, but are expected to be significantly more than the standard S-Class coupe.
