More power for Ford Fiesta ST200
Faster, harder hot hatch will make Goodwood debut
Orders for a more powerful version of the popular Ford Fiesta ST hot hatchback, which it’s calling the Ford Fiesta ST200, have opened. Prices start at £22,745, with first UK deliveries starting later in the summer. The new car will make it's UK public debut at this month's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Having made its debut at March’s Geneva Motor Show, the new car is the most powerful Fiesta ever produced, putting out a total of 197bhp and getting from 0-62mph in just 6.7 seconds. An overboost facility allows this to increase to 211bhp under hard acceleration for short periods of time. That compares to 180bhp and 6.9 seconds for the standard Fiesta ST. The car’s top speed is up, too, with the ST200 maxing out at 143mph, compared to the standard ST’s 139mph top speed.
This extra power and performance has had a detrimental effect on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, however. The ST200 will now return 46.3mpg, compared to the ST’s 47.9mpg, while CO2 emissions have jumped to 140g/km, although this won’t have an impact on how much it’ll cost to tax.
“The Fiesta ST is truly beloved by owners and critics,” said Joe Bakaj, vice president of product development for Ford Europe. “The ST200 takes this special drivers’ car to a new level of power and performance. I think it’s a future classic in the making.”
As well as the more powerful 1.6-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet, the ST200 features Storm Grey exterior paint, matt black alloy wheels and special interior details. Also setting it apart are red-painted brake calipers and part-leather Recaro front seats with silver stitching.
There have also been tweaks made to the steering, suspension and gearbox to make the ST200 even more fun to drive, as well as improving in-gear acceleration, while the brakes have also been upgraded to help deal with the extra power.
You can put your order in for the Ford Fiesta ST200 now, priced from £22,795, with deliveries starting later in the summer.
