Mazda MX-5 RF Sport Black Edition unveiled
High-spec, limited-edition retractable-roof sports car to hit showrooms in May
With its retractable solid roof, the Mazda MX-5 RF stands out from the soft-top Fiat 124 that shares its chassis and running gear – and now its maker is offering a limited-run of 300 RF Sport Black Edition cars that are even more distinctive.
The Sport Black is powered by the most potent MX-5 engine, a 158bhp 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G petrol that can take the two-seater from 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds, with a top speed of 134mph possible where permitted. A limited-slip differential ensures traction in even the tightest corners and there's a long list of upgrades that add value to the car's impressive performance.

The Sport Black is set apart by its Eternal Blue Mica paint-job – usually a £550 option. This contrasts with piano-black door mirrors and a matching black rear spoiler and is set off by gunmetal-coloured alloy wheels. Inside, the Sport Black gains leather seats, special scuff plates and floor mats and Sport Black badging.
The Sport Black's equipment is based on that of the SE-L Nav model, with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that combines Mazda navigation with DAB radio and a Bluetooth connectivity. The Sport Black also gains rail-sensing wipers, automatic headlights and rear parking sensors.
As with the standard MX-5 RF, the Sport Black's power-operated, three-piece fastback roof can be retracted at the touch of a button, leaving two draught-stopping buttresses in place. It means you can enjoy year-round warmth as well as wind-in-the-hair motoring when the sun shines.
The Mazda MX-5 RF Sport Black goes on sale on 28 May, priced at £25,695.
