Haval Jolion Pro hybrid SUV over £10k cheaper than a Nissan Qashqai
Great Wall Motors sub-brand Haval commits to the UK with a budget hybrid SUV
- Mid-size hybrid SUV coming next year
- Rivals cars like the Nissan Qashqai and Renault Symbioz
- Priced from just £23,995
Hybrid SUVs are coming thick and fast from China, and the Haval Jolion Pro is the latest to arrive with a scarcely believable price tag.
It will start from just £23,995 when it goes on sale next February, with even the most expensive models coming in at under £30,000. That’s over £10,000 less than the cheapest hybrid Nissan Qashqai – a difference sure to grab the attention of UK car buyers.
What is the Haval Jolion Pro?
We suspect most readers won’t have heard of Haval before. The brand is an offshoot of Great Wall Motors (GWM), a Chinese auto conglomerate that controls a host of other sub-brands including Ora. The GWM Ora 03 electric supermini was its first model to come to the UK, but the Haval brand is positioned as more upmarket with a focus on SUVs.
So what about the Jolion Pro? It’s a mid-size SUV similar in size to the Nissan Qashqai and Renault Symbioz, offering space for five passengers. It’s been on sale in its home market as the Haval Chitu since 2021, but 2025 will mark its first outing in Europe.
Only a self-charging hybrid model has been confirmed for the UK, which uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor. Total power output stands at 186bhp, but interestingly, the electric motor is capable of producing up to 147bhp alone. UK fuel economy hasn’t been confirmed, but it can achieve up to 55mpg in other markets, so we expect the same to apply here. That would put the Jolion Pro right on par with the MG ZS Hybrid+, which is currently the cheapest hybrid SUV you can buy in the UK.
All cars get a seven-inch driver’s display, while infotainment duties are handled by a central screen measuring 12.3-inches on range-topping versions. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity come as standard, as do LED lights and faux-leather upholstery.
What does this have to do with the GWM Ora 03?
Great Wall Motors initially set up shop in the UK under the GWM Ora name, exclusively selling the Funky Cat electric supermini (later renamed the 03). With new plans to introduce the Haval brand over here, all GWM Ora dealerships will be rebranded as simply ‘GWM’. Both the Ora 03 and Haval Jolion Pro will be sold at these locations, with the possibility of more models joining in the future.
GWM UK’s Managing Director, Toby Marshall, explained “This is the start of a new era for GWM in the UK, as we expand the product offering available to customers. With the introduction of Haval under the GWM umbrella, we are able to offer customers a very competitively priced, and well specified petrol hybrid car, for those that want to make their first step toward electrification.”
How much will the Haval Jolion Pro cost?
Prices for the Haval Jolion Pro will start from just £23,995 when it goes on sale in February 2025. Considering the size of the car on offer, that seems like a pretty reasonable deal to us, and you’ll still see change from £30,000 for the top-spec Ultra model.
For context, the most affordable Nissan Qashqai with a hybrid engine costs over £34,000. The MG ZS Hybrid+, while slightly smaller than the Jolion Pro, is the cheaper hybrid SUV you can buy in the UK at £21,995.
