2005 (55 reg) audi S4, without a doubt the best car i've ever owned. in the 2.5 years I owned this car, and the 65,000 miles i put on the clock, I never once had an issue with the car. The reliability is astounding and then there is the performance which is just unbelievable. driving normally, you'd think you were in an extra nice A4, sports mode on you would be mistaken for thinking your in a race car. Grips incredibly to the road and feels awesomely powerful. Downsides? - it chews up tyres, and just drinks fuel. It doesn't sound like a big V8 until your over 3,000rpm. Other than that I couldn't recommend this car high enough - I hope to own another one day.

Mine is an ex demo car. I loved everything about if from the test drive, we have done over 149,000 mile together and it has never let me down. It's still in great condition. Pros - stylish/comfortable/reliable/good residual value/economical Cons- Audi service is expensive (but good)/tyres are expensive/

I love it. I used to drive a jaguar xk8 so wasn't looking forward to changing. I changed to get a car with more space in the back for the school run and to get 4 wheel drive. I didn't expect to like the new car as much, but i love this car!

Very confortable and easy to drive, although the suspension is set a bit hard for the oap's. On the other hand, the handling is excellent for such a heavy car (1.6 ton) and the engine is one of the best. General overall build quality is very good. Some niggling issues with engine seals,valves, & sensors which have only lasted 50,000 miles and make me wonder what will be next to go (note: the car never actually stopped). Dealer is very expensive but does give good service. Rating: losing out slightly due to annoying faults i would give it 7 or 8 out of 10. (if asked last month, i would have said 9 out of 10)

Superb build and finish but only 46 mpg overall. This is below manufacturers figure for combined. Suspension quite hard and does not like bumps etc. Fine on motorway but poor on road surfaces that are below parr. Previous similar 1.9tdi (115)2000 (w) did 55 mpg overall in 99k miles.Same 1.9 tdi (115) engine and disappointed in mpg. I kinow it is slightly bigger and heavier and has wide bridgestones but still it should still clear 50 mpg on the way i drive. Cruise makes a useful addition . Built in sat nav not as good as tomtom as it does not take full zip codes. Regards

A very comfortable, exciting, confident, quiet car. Great acceleration and road-holding. good interior space tho would like the rear seat to fold down to allow larger loads in the boot. Have taken it to the south of france twice, the first time with four adults and full luggage, and it has performed beautifully and no-one felt cramped. Would reccomend this make and model to anyone.

Very disappointing. The drivers seat is the most uncomfortable i have ever experienced. The heating and ventilation system in the car is very poor, although audi keep telling me it is to specification. If it is, change the specification.

This has been the best motors i have ever owned / used and i have complete confidence in it. A recent winter based problem led to audi paying for the replacement of the brake master cyl and servo unit - this on a 10 year old car! To me this is impressive.

Good car. 254000 miles, original clutch. Wish i had taken the split/fold rear seat (utility) and sports front seats (more lateral support). Otherwise can't fault it, it has become an extension of me. Did 300000 miles in a 1600 astra mk2, got backache, fitted an aftermarket recaro after 150k, much better. Astra was amazing for carrying bulky loads. Have a caterham, best driving position, steering, acceleration and brakes. Lousy economy and load-carrying, wicked in the wet.

Superb. Quicker than expected & adaptive dampers give wide ride options. DSG gearbox smooth & offers seamless shifts. Fine build quality & interior very comfortable with sports seats option. B & O Hifi excellent. Heavy on fuel around town but OK on longer runs. 4WD traction & grip impressive. Very impressed & very pleased. Great engine.

Good, reliable, safe, ages very slowly, fuel economy not a strong point;. The major problem encountered was with fuel gauge which led to fuel pump problem and even the accredited agent has not been able so far to fix it satisfactorily.

The steering rack was replaced x2. Main dealers don't appear to have good knowledge of their products + try replacing items randomly...they are fitters rather than mechanics

The 4th audi a4 tdi and still so good i'll buy the same again. I do jump in and out of a good few cars and these are just superior, why opt for a lesser car, in that i'd include some other german marques. Keep it up audi, performance, luxury longevity and economy, what else is important!

Exceptional build quality amazing to drive, slot better than he old version. Even after 8 hours a day driving it for two years still feels new and with no rattles. Never felt tired or had any aches agreed driving for long periods. Much better than the bmw 3series i had for comfort.

Great performance and build quality, though interior build quality not as good as the mk1 tt (99 reg). Noticed this with other premium manufacturers too, such as bmw. Quality of leather interior not as good as older models, less aluminium castings etc. You pay for extras, unfortunately, but such is what you get with german cars. Only real down side is poor fuel economy, not much better than old model with 4.2 l engine. :0(

Wanted a good reliable car that would double up as a 'van' and be man enough to cope with winter conditions. The audi has definitely lived up to my expectations so far and is extremely economical.

I'm dissapointed that after only 60k mainly motorway miles, the car is starting to have reliability issues. The general quality of serving is very good. However they are not great at fault finding, and tend to rely too much on the 'computer' to tell them if there is anything wrong. The cost of servicing has been creeping up, mainly due to a big jump in oil costs. The car has also needed 1l of expensive synthetic oil every 10,000 miles. I paid a premium for this car, and feel let down by audi that they are undermining the depretiation costs by producing a re-badged version (seat). This will not help re-sale value when it's time to change, and therefore my overall running costs. 90% of my journeys with this car tend to be in the 3-500 mile range. It's quiet and confortable, and does not leave you feeling as tired as other manufacturers. Fuel consumption is pretty good, and tire wear is excellent. It's still on it's origional brake pads after 78,000 miles. In summary despite very good experiences with previous audi's, my current car has not been an outright sucess. In addition, main stream manufacturers have really closed the gap to a point where the premium charged by audi has become questionable.

I bought a 1.9TDI 6 months ago with average mileage (50k). I paid £15k for it. Since then the turbo charger has failed, the alternator has burnt out along with the starter motor. Its a very unreliable car so I have had to incur additional cost to obtain breakdown cover. I would never buy another one. I had a Vauxhall Vectra 2005 before that with over 80k miles with not a bit of trouble. With 40 years of drivibg i have never used roadside recovery until i bought an Audi.

I bought the car because it looks great, is big inside and the quality of the interior out weighed its BMW competitor by miles. I was told that I would get about 67MPG on average but I'm nowhere near that and I do have to say even though I drive it fairly sensible that it can be very thirsty at times.

Drives reasonably but reliability is very poor, so poor we're changing it after 18 months. Fuel cap locked shut, the coolant system gave up and the turbo stopped working. All under warranty but > £3,000 of repairs in five months. This is the second consecutive Audi I've had with dreadful reliability, between them they've had 14 repairs under warranty.

Overall the car feels solid on the road and does not roll around corners at speed. It is extremely comfortable and always feels like a cockpit of a plane inside with the wrap around dash. The electronic handbrake as standard and the perfect driving position make it one of the best cars I have drove. The car also has fold down seats as standard, which compared to BMW is a real benefit when carrying large items. If you drive the car normally you can achieve a realistic figure of 45mpg and if you do 60mph for length on the motorway I have even achieved ranges in the 50s which is superb for a petrol car. Don't feel that you need to pay the extra for a diesel as the petrol is much more quieter and cheaper to run. The only downside is that this car literally drinks oil, I have to add approximately 1 litre ever month and I barely cover 40miles a day. This is a known "fault" which Audi A4, and I add fault in quotations because Audi tell me this is normal. I would accept this information from Audi too as many people on internet forums worldwide suffer the same issue.
