Kia e-Niro interior space & storage

Inside, families will find the e-Niro even more versatile than the regular hybrid model. Both cars take on an unusual and quite unique external form, resembling an SUV in outline but with the wheels and ride height of a normal hatchback. The result is a car that offers plenty of interior space for its size, with an interior that suffers few of the obstructions and obstacles that can blight SUVs.

It might not offer the seven-seat flexibility of some larger SUVs, but the e-Niro is a generous five-seater. Those in the front have ample room for feet, shoulders and head, and finding a comfortable driving position is easy. You don't sit quite as high as in some genuine SUVs, but the view ahead is still elevated compared to that provided by a typical hatchback.

Those in the rear seats will be equally happy with their travelling conditions, with not even the centre occupant getting a raw deal on any but the longest journeys, where shoulder-room three abreast can sometimes feel a little restrictive. There are handy compartments for personal items, including a storage box in the centre console, and pockets in the front seat backs.

Boot space

Remarkably, claimed boot space is greater than for the hybrid powered Niro. Kia claims 451 litres compared with the 382 litres of the electrified petrol car. It's a generous space, and expands still further if you fold the rear seats out of use. It beats the boot of the Nissan Qashqai, but can't quite match the Peugeot 3008 or SEAT Ateca.
