For many, the e-Niro's similarity to other models in the Kia Niro range will be comforting. It only differs from the hybrid car in detail, and shares the same, very car-like layout and appearance. One notable difference, though, is the adoption of a rotary gear selector – freeing up space for a handy storage compartment.

It may not impress with cutting-edge style, but the e-Niro's dashboard is modern enough to compete against European rivals, echoing the design of dashboards from BMW's recent past. It can't match cars such as the Hyundai Tucson or Peugeot 3008 for individual appeal, however.

Equipment

The Kia e-Niro is now offered in three trim levels. Entry-level ‘2’ cars can only be specced with the smaller 39kWh battery, with ‘3’ and ‘4+’ cars coming with the 64kWh battery.

Every version is well equipped, with 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, LED daytime driving lights, automatic headlights and wipers, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and a rear-view camera all fitted as standard. The e-Niro ‘2’ model gets an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The ‘3’ trim level adds wireless phone charging, a larger 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also boasts luxury features including leather upholstery, heated front seats and an eight-way electrical adjustment for the driver’s seat.

The range-topping ‘4+’ trim adds heated rear seats, an upgraded JBL stereo and ambient interior lighting.

Technology

The 10.25-inch touchscreen featured in the ‘3’ and ‘4+’ cars is easy to use on the move, with sharp graphics and easy to understand menus. It includes sat-nav with European mapping, DAB radio and Bluetooth.
