Kia Sorento SUV (2015-2020) - MPG, running costs & CO2
The Kia Sorento boasts a warranty that’s second to none, but standard four-wheel drive harms fuel economy
This Sorento uses the Kia's 197bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine, with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Kia Sorento MPG & CO2
When fitted with a manual gearbox the Sorento can return up to 41.5mpg but the eight-speed automatic gearbox brings this figure down to 39.2mpg - or even less if you choose the largest alloy wheels. CO2 emissions for the two are 177 and 190g/km respectively, which means company-car users will face top-rate Benefit-in-Kind tax payments.
Road tax is £145 a year, although all versions costing over £40,000 new (including options) attract an additional £320-a-year surcharge in years two to five of ownership. Standard four-wheel drive means the Sorento can't quite match the economy of its seven-seater Nissan X-Trail and Skoda Kodiaq rivals.
Insurance
The cheapest Kia Sorento to insure is the entry-level KX-1 model, which sits in group 24. KX-2 and KX-3 models are in groups 25 and 27 respectively, while the top-spec GT-Line sits in group 26 with the GT-Line S in group 25.
Warranty
With a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty, the Kia Sorento makes an excellent case for itself if you want years of trouble-free motoring. It could also lead you to favour the Sorento over the mechanically identical Hyundai Santa Fe, which only offers a five-year warranty (albeit with unlimited mileage). The Kia warranty is also more generous than those offered by upmarket manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar.
Servicing
The Sorento needs servicing every 20,000 miles or every year, whichever comes first. Kia offers a fixed-price servicing package called Kia Care-3, which covers the Sorento's first three services, while Kia Care-3 Plus expands that to five services. Based on an annual mileage of under 11,000 miles, prices start at £359 for Care-3 and £729 for Care-3 Plus. The service intervals for the Sorento are 12, 24 and 36 months, while both Care-3 packages can be transferred to the car's next owner if you sell it before they run out.
