The weight saving that Peugeot achieved when designing the new 308 SW meant fuel economy was always likely to improve compared to the old model. The body is far more aerodynamic, too.

Peugeot 308 SW MPG & CO2

All Peugeot 308 SWs cost £140 a year in road tax and are at least reasonably economical, too.

The most efficient engine is the 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel, with both the 100 and 129bhp versions recording economy figures of over 62mpg and CO2 emissions that start below 100g/km. In comparison, the VW Golf Estate is capable of up to 57.6mpg in 113bhp 1.6 TDI model form. Even the range-topping 2.0-litre BlueHDi 180 version of the 308 SW can return 49.4mpg, and that’s combined with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and 18-inch alloy wheels.

If petrol is your fuel of choice, the smallest engine in the range – the 1.2-litre PureTech 110 – is capable of up to 49.5mpg, which is still impressive. CO2 emissions stand at 113-118g/km, resulting in BiK bands of 26-27%.

The faster 1.2-litre PureTech 130 model is similarly frugal, offering 49.7mpg, 115-123g/km of CO2 and BiK ratings of either 27 or 28%. Meanwhile, the range-topping petrol model, the 1.6-litre PureTech 225, returns 40.1mpg and has CO2 emissions of up to 137g/km. Only available with an automatic gearbox, this model falls into the 30 or 31% bandings.

Insurance group

The 308 SW starts in insurance group 15 (for the 1.2-litre petrol Active model) and rises to group 29 for the 2.0-litre diesel GT model.

Warranty

Peugeot offers a fairly average three-year/60,000-mile warranty on its new cars. It’s not a patch on manufacturers like Kia, which offers excellent seven-year/100,000-mile cover, but the 308 SW shouldn’t be expensive to maintain.

Servicing

A service plan is available for less than £20 a month, while the Originals maintenance scheme fixes the cost of replacing wear-and-tear items like brake pads. The 308 SW is also available on Peugeot’s Just Add Fuel finance package.
