Renault promises improvements in economy and reductions in CO2 emissions for the new Scenic, with a range of efficient petrol and diesel engines, but the version with hybrid technology is no longer available.

Renault Scenic MPG & CO2

In October 2018, the Scenic engine range was slimmed down to a single petrol and diesel. The 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol is our pick for most drivers, returning upto 41.5mpg and emitting 135g/km of CO2. Choose the petrol Scenic as your next company car and you'll have the lower Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) company car tax rating.

Drivers covering high mileages and frequent motorway users may prefer the diesel thanks to its 51.4mpg fuel economy figure, but it will take a while to offset its higher purchase price, which is around £3,000 more than the petrol. Emissions of 126g/km are lower but the BiK tax bands are slightly higher now after the introduction of the diesel surcharge on company cars.

Every version of the Scenic will cost £145 a year to tax. Ticking every option box is unlikely to breach the £40,000 mark, at which point a tax surcharge is payable.

Insurance group

Most versions of the Renault Scenic should be affordable to insure, with the diesel engine starting in group 13 (out of 50) for Play and Iconic trims and group 14 for the range-topping Signature. Choosing the TCe 140 petrol increases this to group 16.

Warranty

he Scenic is covered by a five-year/100,000 mile warranty, which also includes three years of roadside assistance. Renault increased the length of its standard warranty at the end of 2019 from three years and 60,000 miles, to compete with rivals like Hyundai and Toyota, that also provide five years of cover.

Servicing

The Renault Scenic requires a service every year or 18,000 miles, and Renault offers affordable service plans for all its cars. Its EasyLife Pack covers servicing for three years for £300, and is transferable if you sell the car.
