The Skoda Superb Estate is big up front, big in the back and has a massive boot. Few cars do better in this area, with passengers and their luggage very well catered for. It makes a brilliant choice for family motorists or anyone who needs to carry lots of stuff on a regular basis.

Both front and rear-seat occupants have plenty of room to stretch out and it almost feels like a stretched limousine in the back. Space is certainly not a problem in the Superb Estate. An ice scraper in the fuel filler cap and an umbrella stored in the driver’s door are among the clever touches the Superb Estate offers to make life easier. There are also grippy cup-holders that keep your drink in place so you can unscrew the cap one-handed, as well as the option of an iPad cradle for the armrest between the rear seats.

Boot space

The Superb's boot is very useful and thoughtfully designed with a wide opening and a low loading lip. The seats fold easily, there are luggage dividers and hooks, and you can specify a false floor as an option, which allows you to configure the space available exactly how you need it.

And that space is vast – you can fit 660 litres of luggage in the Superb with all the seats in place, expanding to a huge 1,950 litres – more than the equivalent for the Mercedes E-Class estate – with the seats folded. You can even fold the Superb's front passenger seat forward which allows items up to 3.3 metres long to be carried, so it should be no problem when it comes to time to carry timber, curtain rails or a big Christmas tree. Choose the Superb iV Estate and the boot's underfloor storage becomes a charging cable cubby, reducing overall volume to 510 litres - but that will still be plenty for most.

Towing

The four-wheel-drive models are able to haul a maximum braked weight of 2,200kg with either the 2.0-litre TSI petrol or 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine providing the power, making these towing kings of the Superb Estate range.

Sticking with front-wheel drive drops the maximum towing figures for those engines to a still considerable 2,000kg, while even the 1.5-litre petrol and plug-in hybrid models can pull up to 1,600kg. 

Touches you can also add include the trailer hitch camera. It gives a clear view when you're reversing and attaching to a caravan or trailer, making towing with the Superb very easy.
