The Toyota Prius+ lays claim to being the first hybrid seven-seater, so if you divide those enviable running costs by seven, it’s hard to move more people for less cash.

Toyota Prius+ MPG & CO2

The on-paper running costs vary slightly depending on which trim you choose. The entry-level Icon model has 16-inch wheels with fitted trims that help it achieve 48.7mpg on average. Choose the Excel with slightly larger 17-inch alloy wheels and this drops to 47mpg – hardly a disgrace. You may notice these figures aren’t quite as high now as when the Prius+ launched; this is because Toyota has now adopted the latest WLTP testing procedure, which is said to give more realistic results than the previous system.

In the real world, you’re highly unlikely to notice a difference, with fuel economy of over 40mpg easy to achieve.

The entry-level Icon emits 106g/km of CO2, attracting a Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rate of 24% for company-car tax payers, compared to 25% for the Excel model, which emits 112g/km.

Insurance

The Toyota Prius+ Icon and Excel both fall into group 15 insurance. That’s lower than the Ford S-MAX, which has groups ranging from group 16 to 29.

Warranty

A five-year/100,000-mile warranty is offered as standard, while the battery is covered for eight years/100,000 miles.

Servicing

The Toyota Prius+ service intervals are every 12 months or 10,000 miles – whichever is sooner. Three fixed-priced service options are available (Intermediate, Full and Full Plus) and can be booked online. Toyota’s genuine parts come with a 12-month warranty.
