Volkswagen Golf GTD hatchback (2013-2019) - Reliability & safety
All of the Volkswagen Golf GTD’s parts have been tried and tested in other VW cars
Our annual Driver Power survey shows that Volkswagen Golf owners are a generally pleased by their cars. The Golf also has a great reputation for safety, and the GTD has sophisticated driver-assistance technology fitted as standard.
Volkswagen Golf GTD reliability
The fact that the Golf GTD shares a large proportion of its parts with other models in the VW range should ensure this range-topping model is just as reliable as any other Golf diesel.
The Volkswagen Golf was rated highly for reliability in our 2017 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey of cars currently on sale in the UK. Of the owners who responded, 15.6% reported experiencing a problem with their car at least once.
Safety
Safety is another strong point for the GTD – and all other Golf models for that matter. It benefits from a five-star Euro NCAP crash-test rating – broken down into 94% for adult occupant protection, 89% for child occupants and 65% for pedestrians.
Its high ratings here are thanks to seven airbags, electronic stability control and an automatic post-collision braking system, which stops the car after an impact to prevent a secondary collision.
The GTD also has autonomous emergency braking to prevent low-speed accidents; adaptive cruise control that maintains a safe distance between you and the car in front; and a driver fatigue sensor, which warns if you’re nodding off at the wheel.
