A magnificent car, that runs smoothly with a very sensitive DSG gearbox. Its fuel consumption from its 2.0-litre diesel is excellent. I'm getting around 45-50mpg combined and around 32mpg around town and I've had absolutely no problems at all.

Bought this car as I needed an estate that was capable of towing upto 2000kg. It had done 30k miles. It was replacing a 2010 Mondeo of same engine size and power in which I had done 160k miles. Doing the same journey, same driver etc, the Skoda returns a poor 40mpg while the Mondeo returned 55mpg. (Both figures tested on full to full tanks). Been back to the garage a few times and they say they can achieve 60mpg if the drive at a constant 55mph, which is impractical. The Skoda isn't a bad car but does nothing well. Quality is average at best and not a scratch on the Mondeo (which was a surprise to me). It also has a few irritating features such as no heated front screen and a cigar lighter that remains on all the time. The only reason I didn't replace the Mondeo with another, was the new versions have an electric handbrake, which I didn't want. I now regret this decision and will get rid of this poor car in ASAP.

This is the 3rd Octavia diesel Estate I've owned, previous ones being a Mk 1 and Mk 2, both part-exchanged after about 6 years/50,000 miles. All have been excellent and ultra-reliable but the latest Scout is by far the best. Plenty of space, good ride, quiet, very good build quality, lots of toys and a pleasure to drive. Mine has extras such as electric front seats, xenon headlights and auto parking which just add to the experience. The 150 bhp diesel engine is powerful enough for me and the manual gearbox is precise and pleasant to use but a bit heavy in feel, to be expected with the part-time 4-wheel drive. I tow a 1340 MPTLM single axle caravan and the Scout deals with this very well. MPG overall is around 45 mpg but this does vary greatly with the type of journey and is less than my previous Octavia estates, both of which had the 1.9 litre 105 bhp engine. Long runs will return 60 mpg plus, short trips 35-45 mpg. The engine takes a while to warm up which probably contributes to this, and fuel consumption is affected by external temperature - it's much better in summer. My towing average has been about 32 mpg now that the engine is bedded in after 17,000 miles. When it was newer it was closer to 28. I've owned the car since it was 4 months old and 3,000 miles. The tyre wear is excellent – I reckon they'll last 35.000 miles. It has not yet had a service, it's due when it turns 2 years old. Nothing has broken or fallen off and my passengers have no complaints either. Highly recommended by this very satisfied owner.

This is a fabulous all-round family car. The engine is smooth and punchy with plenty of torque and the DSG gearbox is smooth and unobtrusive. The addition of 4wd means that all the power is available all of the time, which is especially useful when pulling out of wet junctions and generally provides drama free power delivery. The extra ride height and under body guards help a lot when you live down an unmade road and provide a much better ride than I was expecting. The interior is tough, comfortable and easily big enough to hold 5 along with plenty of luggage. No matter how I drive it the consumption has never been worse than 46 MPG. The only minor niggle I can think of is that the Sat-Nav is not the most responsive system I've ever used but it is accurate and provides practical routes with timely traffic avoidance when needed. This is a company car so I guess the acid test is would I spend my own money on it? Yes I would.

Pretty amazing car, it does everything that I want from it. Fast comfortable and economical. I took the sunroof option which, although expensive, is really good. Off the line it flies with the four wheel drive stopping wheel spin and the DSG gearbox is really good. Minor trade offs are a big pause getting from 1st to 2nd with foot down and a rather soft wallowing handling in the corners, although the trade off is a really comfortable ride over most terrains. I love this car. Nothing at all has gone wrong and I have used it everyday for nearly a year now.
