Suzuki Swift review - Reliability & safety
Suzuki tops the leaderboards as the most reliable car brand, but safety is a grey area
Suzuki doesn’t perform outstandingly in our Driver Power owner satisfaction surveys overall, but where it really shines is in terms of reliability. Here it tops the leaderboard, with only 8.9% of owners in 2024 reporting an issue with their car in the first year of ownership – contrast that with MG’s terrible last-place performance overall and relatively high 28.7% of owners reporting an issue in the first year. Previous versions of the Suzuki Swift haven't featured in our list of the top 75 cars, but given it’s one of the brand’s top-selling models, it seems safe to say it should prove reliable.
How safe is the Suzuki Swift?
The Suzuki Swift was crash-tested by Euro NCAP, receiving a three-star rating – that’s unsurprising given the fact that the previous model achieved the same score and doesn’t differ greatly under the skin. The fact that the testing has got more stringent in recent years could mean that it’s marginally safer than its predecessor as it’s retained the previous score, but either way a three-star score is still disappointing given the Renault Clio has a five-star score (albeit from less stringent testing back in 2019).
What are the Suzuki Swift service intervals?
Suzuki suggests getting its cars serviced every 12 months or 12,500 miles. The brand offers service plans for up to three years at a time and the price can be paid on a monthly basis to make it more affordable.
What is the warranty on the Suzuki Swift?
Suzuki offers a warranty that covers your car for up to three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. With such impressive reliability statistics, we’d have expected more, as this is far behind the 10-year/100,000-mile warranty offered by Toyota and the five-year/unlimited-mile warranty offered by Hyundai. Despite having worse reliability and customer satisfaction stats, MG does offer a more competitive seven-year/80,000-mile warranty. Most other manufacturers will offer three years’ warranty for up to 100,000 miles or without a mileage limit.
