Obey speed limits
Not only is it the law, obeying speed limits can also save you money and protect the environment. By ensuring you stay at or below the speed limit, you can avoid fines. Not only that, but your car will also use less fuel, particularly if you stick to 70mph or less on the motorway. Reduced load on the engine will also produce less CO2, creating less pollution.
It's important to remember that speed limits are a maximum, not a target. This is especially pertinent for national speed limit country roads, where 60mph is likely to be too fast. You're also likely to need to drop below the speed limit in poor conditions, such as wintry weather and fog, where braking distances increase and visibility is poor.
Avoid distractions
Distractions like using a mobile phone while driving are incredibly dangerous and come with steep penalties for anyone caught by the police. From 1 March 2017, offenders risk a £200 fine and six penalty points on their licence. New drivers risk having their licence revoked and repeat offenders face even more serious punishments.
