Toyota is famed for its unstoppable reliability, and while the latest Land Cruiser is too new to feature in our Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, a very low 15% of Toyota owners reported an issue with their car in the first year. Reliability is a key selling point for a car like the Land Cruiser which regularly tackles harsh environments away from immediate help, so we’d imagine Toyota will have put in extra effort to make it dependable. The diesel engine is a simple tried-and-tested unit, too.

In comparison, Land Rover has one of the worst reputations for reliability, with 42% of owners reporting an issue with their car in the first year – that’s worth considering before heading deep into an Amazonian rainforest far from civilization.

How safe is the Toyota Land Cruiser?

The Toyota Land Cruiser is yet to be tested by Euro NCAP, but Toyota says the car’s rigidity means it provides strong protection in the even of an impact. There’s plenty of safety tech to help prevent accidents in the first place, too, such as a pre-collision system which warns you if you’re about to crash, even at junctions with traffic approaching from both sides. There’s also emergency steering assist to guide you away from an obstacle or other car if it’s safe to do so.

There’s a driver-monitoring system which engages while the lane-keep assist is activated, and detects if the driver has stopped making inputs for a period of time, issuing an alert. This will also bring the car to a steady halt and engage the hazard lights after prolonged lack of driver input. A Safe Exit Assist feature also warns if a door is opened into the path of another road user.

What are the Toyota Land Cruiser service intervals?

Toyota has yet to release specific service interval guidance for the Land Cruiser, but for most of its cars it’s usually every 12 months or 10,000 miles. Check this before purchasing, however.

What is the warranty on the Toyota Land Cruiser?

Toyota offers a very competitive warranty on all its models which covers them initially for three years, and then every year or 10,000 miles for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles in total, so long as the car is serviced each time at an official Toyota dealership. That should offer great piece of mind which is much more confidence-inspiring than Land Rover’s three-year unlimited warranty, which is the industry standard.
