Toyota Proace owner reviews
"The Proace Verso's van origins make it a hugely practical MPV that can accomodate up to nine people, but they also mean the car seems rough round the edges out on the road and is dull to drive"

I've always had Toyota vans including 2 Hiaces, one upgraded for a younger model and the second was rolled on black ice. Absolutely loved the reliability and robust build and if it was not for the second one being written off would still be driving it. I replaced it with a 17-plate Proace, I do a lot of miles and wanted that Toyota assurance of quality, it was great initially but then the issues started. Loads of recalls for many problems then the constant warning lights and faults caused by rubbish electronics. Several design faults on it, wiring looms that allow water to ruin them have been replaced twice now. Don't try to change a fuse in the passenger dash area as they are buried on the engine bulkhead hidden behind the wiring loom and are totally inaccessible.
A turbo air hose that runs behind the front bumper skirt the width of the van that rubs on a bracket that eventually bursts it. Cost of Toyota only parts is horrendous: a wheel bearing costs £700 plus fitting due to it being a manufacturer-only part and the requirement of a special tool to fit.
I'm selling it now as I've had enough. It's not a Toyota as I recognise it, with a Peugeot engine that requires particulate fluid which again is very expensive and the dealer had to create a way of filling it as there was no filler port - another design fault.
Another issue is the reverse gear ratio when reversing a trailer is rubbish you have to ride the clutch or it goes really wrong, I coincidentally met another Proace owner at the garage the other day and he has had all the same issues in fact both our vans were in for yet again warning lights and electronics issues on the same day so it's not just my van.
I had high expectations of this van but so disappointed overall. There are some good points but the reliability spoils the experience. It's getting sold once this fault is sorted and will be going for a transit custom.
