Vauxhall Antara SUV (2007-2015) - Practicality & boot space
Towing limits are reasonable and thanks to its generous equipment, the Vauxhall Antara features some useful technology to make the task that little bit easier
The Vauxhall Antara has a roomy cabin with space for five adults to sit comfortably. The boot (seats up or seats down) is a little small, however. It's high and quite shallow, which makes bulky items difficult to accommodate. The Antara's towing limits are reasonable and thanks to the model's generous equipment, it features some useful technology to make the task that little bit easier.
Vauxhall Antara interior space & storage
The Antara is a tall car, so headroom is good in the front and rear. Legroom is decent, too, and a flat floor means there's plenty of space for people to put their feet. There's just about enough space in the rear seats for three adults to sit in relative comfort, and reclining seatbacks boost comfort further still. The Antara's 2012 facelift brought extra storage space, including cubbies and lidded compartments, while the front and rear armrests have cup-holders, too.
Boot space
That roomy cabin has come at the expense of boot space, however. With the rear seats upright, it measures 420 litres, and the space expands to 1,420 litres when they're folded down completely flat. Rivals, including the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Santa Fe and Mazda CX-5 have more luggage capacity, though. However, the Antara's tailgate is large while the loading lip is low down, so getting bulky items in isn't a problem. In SE Nav trim, the passenger seat folds flat, allowing you to slide in long objects.
Towing
Depending on the engine, the Antara's towing limits range from 1,700kg to 2,000kg. That's enough to haul a large family caravan and, for once, superior to the Mazda CX-5's figure. The Antara has self-levelling suspension (useful if your trailer's nose weight is on the heavy side) an electric parking brake for instant and secure parking and hill-start assist for preventing vehicle and trailer rolling back on inclines. Four-wheel-drive versions also have a trailer stability program for safer towing.
