Vauxhall Insignia saloon owner reviews

"The Vauxhall Insignia is styled more like a sporty coupe than a family saloon, and while it has an upmarket feel, it’s not as practical as its main rival, the Ford Mondeo."

I bought this car second hand, when it was 3 years old, but had been stored in a garage for 1 year due to the owners ill health. It had 17500 miles on the clock and was a great looking car. Every year at the annual service it costs me at least £600 (somethies more in between services). I have had a crack in the Coolant EGR ( a common problem apparently), Springs breaking (may be due to speed bumps, which I go over slowly), Alternator and battery, discs and pads twice, rear brake calliper (but turns out that wasn't the fault, it was the handbrake mechanism). It eats tyres on the front, even when cornering carefully so I now just put cheap tyres on. When it works it is a great motorway car and good for towing. It's high geared and sluggish in Urban driving, but has a good sized boot. Cabin space in the rear is limited, has 3 seat belts but can only comfortably have 2 adults or 1 adult and a child in a booster. This is my third GM car, and will be my second and last Vauxhall.

Lovely car inside and out. 18-inch alloys make for a little bit of a harsher ride, but that's a price you will pay in the majority of vehicles. Fuel economy is fair, I'm getting a return of 49mpg with both city and motorway driving. I've had the driver's side rear window motor replaced (under dealer warranty). But all in all I'm really impressed with this motor.

Remarkably sound (touch wood) and massive torque - but not as economical as the govt. figures suggest.

i use this car as a taxi,so is used for mainly short journeys, hence not brilliant mpg.and its heavy on tyres. But i like the car overall, and so do my customers. But the oil pressure low/switch off engine warning light comes on at first start up, then goes off. Dealers had it 8 days now, and cant tell me what is wrong. Changed o.p. switch and oil filter housing, but still the same. It now sounds expensive to repair, and could go into dispute who is paying, when they find out the problem. I'm fed up of waiting.

I think that my insignia is a fantastic car to drive. I travel many miles and always look forward to driving it. The road holding is brilliant even when cornering hard. The speed although not mind blowing is impressive. As it is a sport back there is plenty of room in the back and with the rear seats down i can lay flat out in comfort with the back door closed (i am just over six foot tall). The room in the back for the rear passengers is also good, with my driving position; seat back, there is adequate room behind me. The reason i first visited the garage was to have a look at the sport back as i believe it has beautiful lines. Once there the salesman, as they do, asked if i would like to have a drive of a saloon. Once in the seat i felt that it was the car for me. I prefer the styling of the sport back so bought one. My previous car was very thirsty so was surprised with the mpg return. On a full tank and mainly motorway mileage, at a speeds ranging between 75 -90 ish! I managed just (4 miles) short of 600 miles. Very impressed. I think my car is awesome and would not hesitate in buying another one! Only problem i have had is the oil/deisel saturation warning light came on which meant that the oil had to be changed. As my first service was free it was changed as part of the first service.

Ridiculous fault with DPF filter, I was told it was because I am driving it on too short a trip! (I do at least 90 miles on my first journey every week day). Full wiring harness does seem to have solved this issue now. Sat navigation is terrible, voice comes and goes when it pleases and quite often does not take you the quickest route no matter what I do with the settings. Bluetooth is fairly shocking too, frequently disconnects the phone during calls which is very annoying! Positives, comfortable (handy whilst awaiting recovery), good size boot (brilliant for essential survival equipment whilst awaiting recovery)

I must agree with the owner's review here instead of Carbuyer's view, which in my opinion is very wide of the mark, bordering on incompetent. The first warning sign to Carbuyers review is that fuel economy is listed as a negative, this is the first car where I was able to drive from South Wales to South Scotland and back... I didn't need to refill. If that is not a plus with this magazine then I suggest you the buyer start looking to other magazines. My next point I would like to point out is the SE is a mid-range model for the CDTi and its interior matches and in some places exceeds what is on offer in the "premium" brands, let's make note of what is well known amongst car enthusiasts, these premium brands offer more in terms of interior material at the detriment of quality of mechanical parts. See Warranty Directs survey of information sourced not from owners but from the manufacturers themselves under the Freedom of Information Act, if you want all leather on the seats, steering wheel, dashboard, handles and a leather floor go for those 'Premium' brands. If you want a car without that razzmatazz inside but instead an engine that will not have a £1,800 garage bill every two years go for a Vauxhall, Ford or a Japanese make. In short you should avoid BMW, Audi or VW if you want to guarantee you arrive at your destination. That survey was quite an eye opener! The drive itself is equal to these 'Premium' brands, it is actually a quieter and more relaxing ride. The magazine say "uninvolved interaction", what they mean to say is that will not feel all the pot holes that you will from the three german brands of Audi, BMW and VW and you will not feel the steering wheel yank itself to one side if the camber of the road changes abruptly. Normally you would think this is a good thing and I like my arms to feel fresh at the end of a 7 hour long drive on the motorway, I do not like these 'Premium' brands... the handling is poor and your arms are constantly adjusting against the road which some reviews claim is good because you can "feel the road". Why would I want that? I pay upwards of £45,000 and I expect to be able lift my knife and folk when I arrive in Skegness via South Wales to eat my meal before enjoying my well deserved pint of best. The owner reviews here show a remarkably different score to CarBuyer, we are taking 3.5 to 4.4. You can adjust to a more realistic score where you factor there will always be someone unhappy about service from a particular dealer so will apply their rating of the dealer erroneously to the car and that would result in a 1 star rating. You will also have people who may have one day in particular where the car refused to start up because of wear and tear after about 3 years of use and 90,000 miles on the clock, after the car is in the garage they come here and scream how bad and unreliable it has been. So, 4.4 after so many owner reviews? This car is a winner, it is possibly the class leader. The only car of this type that gets close to compete is the Ford Mondeo and those 'Premiums' you can guarantee are only Premium with their price tag and repair costs.

Well I must have read 15 reviews from experts for this car, to say they were mixed would be fair which left me hesitant to buy one. So here's my take on this car. I have owned previously, BMW Diesel, Mondeo TDCI (130), Avensis petrol, Saab turbo so I have tried quite a few large family cars. Comfort - yes its very comfy & refined, suspension damping is firmer than an Avensis but in no way too firm, it makes it fun to handle too I would say, way less body roll than on other cars I have owned. Performance - I have read so much about the petrol engine being underpowered. I do not find this, it does not have the ooomph of a turbo diesel but it is refined and not lacking in performance and does not sound like a tractor when cold. With 6 gears you want to be overtaking in 4th not 6th but that is same in most cars. Trim - I love the interior, seats in SRI are comfy and supportive with loads of adjustments. Not had it long so cannot comment on reliability. If you are doubting buying a petrol insignia then don't, the engine is good & string and refined.

The insignia vxr is a very fast car, expensive to run and tax. Looks good but do not like the xenon lights, electronic handbrake and lack of dealership techical advise - ie after owning car 10 months, both the dealer and vauxhall can not tell me where the front fog lights are on the adaptive forward lighting system!

The insignia has really impressed me. I went for it after deciding a £18000 vauxhall on 0% suited me better than the equiv contract-hire £25000 audi, and i must say i don't regret it. The sri is far more striking than the slightly bland a4 and it's interior has brought genuine positive comment from my audi/bmw driving mates. A vauxhall will never have the badge of the germans, but i do think they have cracked the quality & design challenge with this car. Lastly it looks brilliant and drives well, plus the dealer staff are friendly and professional. The tyres are expensive, but thats my own fault for opting for the 18's, plus they look great....!

Fantastic performance but for sure could handle more power beats rs focus hands down. only problem running cost 18.7 mpg but you do have to pay for power unfortunately.
