Today’s hot car deal: evergreen Volkswagen Golf for £189 a month
Our hot deal for November 27 is an affordable lease on one of the most popular cars on sale
You may think it’s only possible to score a fantastic deal on cars that manufacturers struggle to sell, but our deal of the day is proof there are bargains to be had even on some of the most popular models on the market. A bona fide best-selling family car for just £189 per month? Step this way…
What’s so good about this Volkswagen Golf deal?
Available via Leasing.com, this steal of a deal is a two-year lease of a Volkswagen Golf in entry-level Life spec. But while it might be the base trim, the car is fitted with the punchy 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine – a great fit whether you spend your time in town, or slogging up and down the motorway.
That headline price of £189 per month requires a nine-month initial rental (£1,996), and covers you for 5,000 miles per year. However, if that’s not enough, you can double the annual mileage limit for a little over £20 per month. In fact, most of the terms can be tweaked; want the car for four years instead of two? No problem.
It’s worth noting that this is a factory order, so the stated lead time is six-to-12 months, but that does mean you should be able to choose the colour and trim – as well as adding a few choice options like bigger wheels or a beefier stereo. If you’re not in a hurry, this is a fantastic deal.
What’s so good about the Volkswagen Golf?
Almost everybody has either owned, or knows someone who has owned, a Volkswagen Golf. There’s a reason for that: its classless image, strong build quality, punchy engines and decent practicality have long made it the default family car choice. While rivals have caught up in recent years, the Golf is still a great buy.
The car here may be the base ‘Life’ trim, but it still gets plenty of kit included. There’s 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED lights and wipers, adaptive cruise control, all-around parking sensors and a 10.25-inch driver’s display, plus plenty of active safety features.
But as mentioned, while this might be the base trim, it isn’t actually the base engine option. The 1.5 eTSI is a mild-hybrid motor with 128bhp, capable of 0-62mph in a respectable 9.2 seconds. The car offered up on Leasing.com comes with a manual gearbox, and will return up to 52mpg on the WLTP combined cycle.
It should be a practical runaround, too, with room for five inside, plus a 380-litre boot. Quality perhaps isn’t up to Volkswagen’s past standards, but the Golf feels hard wearing and will suit those with young kids for the duration of the two-year lease.
Our criticisms of Volkswagen’s touchscreen infotainment system remain, but you can bypass much of this by using the car’s standard-fit Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity. The myriad touch-sensitive buttons are unavoidable, however.

Anything else I need to know about this deal?
This is a lease deal, often referred to as Personal Contract Hire (PCH), so there’s no option to buy the car at the end of the contract. You are effectively renting the car for the two-year term, but the deal is very flexible so you can adjust the term length, mileage limit and initial payment size to suit. Once the deal is over, you just hand the keys back and start looking for your next car.
Our hot deals are carefully selected by our car buying experts and they are all subject to change. Always read the full terms and conditions and make sure the car and the deal suits your needs before proceeding.
