Cupra Formentor review - Practicality & boot space
The Cupra Formentor is practical, even with its coupe roofline
Coupe-SUVs are really on-trend at the moment, and they generally trade a little bit of practicality for style. That's the case here, because while the Formentor is fairly roomy for passengers, its boot is on the small side – especially if you go for the plug-in hybrid.
Cupra Formentor interior space & storage
With a longer wheelbase than the Ateca, the rear seats are quite spacious, and all but your tallest friends will be happy to sit in the back. There’s a good amount of headroom and legroom – even with those chunky front sport seats – and it shouldn’t get too claustrophobic in the back. The Formentor also features a number of storage cubbies for various bits and pieces.
Boot space
The Formentor can be thought of as a sleeker version of the Cupra Ateca (albeit with a very different interior), and as such the boot doesn’t carry quite as much as the more boxy model. The difference isn’t huge, though, and the Formentor’s 420-litre boot is that bit bigger than an Audi S3 or Cupra Leon’s boot to make it appealing. There are a couple of tethering points and a ski hatch in the middle of the split-folding rear seats. It's also important to note that the boot shrinks to 345 litres in the e-Hybrid model, because of the battery pack, making it very small for an SUV. On the contrary, it also grows to 450 litres for the TSI 150 and 245 models, thanks to the lack of all-wheel-drive.
Towing
Despite its sporty looks and body kit, the Formentor can still make a pretty good towing vehicle. The plug-in hybrid can haul a 1,500kg braked trailer, which increases to 1,800kg for all of the many TSI petrols.
