Skoda Enyaq price slashed by £2,000 thanks to new entry-level model
New entry-level Skoda Enyaq brings a 55kWh battery and a £36,970 price tag
- New Enyaq 50 gets a 55kWh battery
- Up to 234 miles of range
- On sale now from £36,970
The Skoda Enyaq is one of the UK’s most popular electric cars, and the introduction of two new models has seen its starting price drop by £2,000 – a move that Skoda hopes will encourage more drivers to switch to electric power.
The Enyaq 50 replaces the outgoing Enyaq 60 as the new entry-point to the range, with a price tag that undercuts many similarly-sized family EVs, such as the Peugeot E-3008 and the Nissan Ariya. The Skoda Enyaq 50 starts from £36,970, while the Skoda Enyaq 50 Edition costs from £38,585, replacing the Enyaq 60 Edition.
What do I need to know about the new Skoda Enyaq 50?
The new Skoda Enyaq 50 is placed at the bottom of the Enyaq range, serving as the most affordable way into electric Skoda ownership – that is until the new Skoda Elroq and Skoda Epiq arrive next year. It replaces the Enyaq 60 and uses a new 55kWh battery (52kWh of which is usable) in place of the outgoing model’s 62kWh unit. Range has suffered marginally as a result, dropping from 248 to a maximum of 234 miles, depending on specification.
The battery can be recharged at speeds of up to 145kW, meaning a top up from 0 to 80% should take around 25 minutes at a compatible public charger. The rear wheels are driven by a 168bhp electric motor with enough grunt to launch the Enyaq 50 from 0-62mph in 9.1 seconds. While the charging speeds have improved, the Enyaq 50’s performance is slightly down on the old Enyaq 60, although we doubt many family EV buyers will notice.
Despite the lower starting price, the Skoda Enyaq 50 still comes with a healthy standard equipment list. You get a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera plus a suite of safety systems. For all the bells and whistles, you can upgrade to the Enyaq 50 Edition, which adds LED matrix headlights, tri-zone climate control, heated seats and a heated steering wheel, privacy glass and adaptive cruise control.
How much does the Skoda Enyaq 50 cost and when can I buy one?
The Skoda Enyaq range now starts from £36,970 for the Enyaq 50 – exactly £2,000 less than the old Enyaq 60. The same price cut applies to the Enyaq 50 Edition, which starts from £38,585.
The two new models will be sold alongside the Enyaq 85 Edition, the four-wheel drive Enyaq 85x Sportline Plus, the posh Enyaq 85 L&K, and the sporty Enyaq vRS.
What does it mean for car buyers?
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a manufacturer cut the price of its EVs in recent times. Peugeot announced a £3,000 price cut for the E-2008 in July 2024, while the Vauxhall Mokka Electric had its price slashed by £7,000 earlier in the year. With new EV competition arriving from China at increasingly affordable prices, more established manufacturers are having to rethink their pricing strategies in order to remain competitive.
For car buyers, that means the barrier to entry for EV ownership looks to be coming down. With new, cheaper EVs like the Skoda Enyaq 50 coming to market, the cost gap between an electric car and a petrol one is shrinking, meaning more buyers could be tempted to make the switch. The Skoda Enyaq was already one of our favourite EVs, and a lower starting price should only make it more attractive.
