Facelifted Mercedes-AMG E63 S now on sale

New 2020 Mercedes-AMG E63 S costs almost £100,000

  • Updated E63 has redesigned styling
  • E63 S gets 604bhp
  • Extra driver assistance tech

Prices and specifications have been released for the new Mercedes-AMG E63. The facelifted saloon and estate start from £98,370 and £100,370 respectively, and both are available to order now with first deliveries expected in September.

The updates bring the E63 in line with the 2020 updated E-Class range, which is also now on sale. There’s new front and rear styling, lots of new options to consider and updated technology inside, but the V8 engine remains broadly the same.

As before, the E63 will be available as a saloon and as an estate, rivalling high-performance cars like the Porsche Panamera, BMW M5 and Audi RS7. The BMW M5 has just been facelifted too, so you’ve got two brand-new models to choose from.

Just like the rest of the new Mercedes E-Class range, the new E63 gets reshaped headlights and saloon models get similar brake light clusters to the Mercedes A-Class saloon. We expect similar lights to be fitted to the upcoming Mercedes S-Class. There’s a reshaped grille that’s wider than before and now hosts 12 vertical slats, plus deep air intakes, a jutting front bumper and a purposeful diffuser sitting between four exhaust pipes.

Along with a new AMG steering wheel, the updated E63 will benefit from Mercedes’ latest MBUX infotainment technology. Mercedes has also taken the opportunity to add new driver assistance technology, including Active Speed Limit Assist. When you have the cruise control on, it can take information from the sat nav and from online to automatically slow you down before junctions, traffic and hazards.

As standard, the E63 comes with all the equipment from the ‘Night Edition Premium Plus’ E-Class trim level, so buyers enjoy a black styling pack, a Burmester sound system, memory seats, carbon-fibre trim, a driver assistance pack and matte black 20-inch alloy wheels.

Like Mercedes’ other AMG cars, the 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system is fitted. It’ll help control all the power available; standard cars get 563bhp while E63 S models get a whopping 604bhp, although only the most potent version is coming to the UK. Zero-to-62mph takes 3.5 seconds - the same as before - and you can pay to have the top speed lifted from 155mph to 186mph.
