Practicality & boot space Rating

4.5 out of 5

The biggest selling point for the Kia Ceed Sportswagon is its boot, which is now within a few litres of the class leaders like the Skoda Octavia Estate. Plenty of thought has gone into the space, too, with a useful storage area under the boot floor to hide valuables.

Kia Ceed Sportswagon interior space & storage

Built on new underpinnings, the Ceed is longer and wider than before, providing passengers in the front and back additional space. In particular the shoulder room for back-seat occupants is boosted by a 20mm increase in width, while those in the front also get extra headroom.

Boot space

Sitting behind the 60:20 split-folding rear seats there's a 625-litre boot, making the Ceed Sportswagon more spacious than the SEAT Leon ST and putting it well in contention with the Volkswagen Golf Estate and Skoda Octavia Estate. It's worth noting that the diesel version doesn't have quite so much luggage space, with its boot size reduced to 512 litres.

Owners of the previous version should notice the loading lip is now lower for easier access and higher trims get a 40:20:40 rear-seat layout that can be folded with levers in the boot, further increasing convenience. Fold down the rear seats, and the available storage expands to 1,694 litres (1,581 litres for the diesel).

The currently unavailable Ceed Sportswagon PHEV was less practical than its petrol and discontinued diesel counterparts, due to the battery underneath the boot floor.

This reduced the available storage space to 437 litres with the rear seats in place, expanding to 1,506 litres with the rear seats folded flat.

Towing

If you need to tow with a petrol Ceed Sportswagon, both versions are able to haul a 1,000kg braked trailer. This is a slightly disappointing figure, as it means this family estate will be limited to towing small caravans and trailers. The 1.6-litre diesel is better here, improving the limit to 1,500kg.
