Maserati Grecale gets new entry model, with a £4,000 price cut
If you fancy a seldom-seen Italian SUV, the Grecale is now more affordable
Maserati has expanded the Grecale SUV lineup with a new base model, slashing the starting price by over £4,000. The new variant, simply called ‘Grecale,’ replaces the outgoing GT trim but retains the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a healthy 296bhp. It nudges the price just below £60,000.
New Grecale trim replaces GT
The revised range now consists of the entry-level Grecale, followed by the Modena, high-performance Trofeo, and all-electric Folgore. With a new starting price of £59,990, the base Grecale is £4,065 cheaper than the GT it replaces. The move follows Maserati’s decision to simplify its badging, as seen with the latest GranTurismo and GranCabrio models.
The new entry-level Grecale comes with a choice of solid Bianco or metallic Grigio Lava Opaco paint as standard, with additional metallic and Fuoriserie custom shades available at extra cost. It rides on 20-inch wheels with a choice of summer or all-season tyres. Inside, open-pore Radica wood trim and Nero leather seats provide a luxurious feel. A full specification list is expected soon.
Grecale performance and options
Despite being the base model, the Grecale retains strong performance credentials. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, coupled with mild-hybrid assistance, enables a 0-62mph time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 149mph.
Just because it’s the entry-level Grecale, don’t think it will feel like a rental car inside, and you’ll still be able to add options including a £1,600 panoramic sunroof, a £2,305 Bowers & Wilkins sound system, and a £1,500 adaptive suspension system, should you wish.
For those looking for extra performance, the Grecale Modena ups the power to 325bhp, shaving 0.3 seconds off the 0-62mph sprint while maintaining the same 149mph top speed. It also adds a performance braking system with painted calipers, gloss black alloy wheels, and a broader selection of optional extras. However, at £71,480, it represents a significant jump in price over the base model.
What about the top-spec models?
The range-topping Grecale Trofeo, powered by a 523bhp twin-turbo V6, remains in the lineup, as does the all-electric Grecale Folgore. Both models have seen small price increases for 2024, now starting at £102,950 and £99,165, respectively.
With this price reduction, Maserati aims to make the Grecale more accessible to buyers while maintaining its premium appeal. Whether this move will be enough to challenge rivals like the Porsche Macan and BMW X3 remains to be seen.
