MG ZS EV SUV - Practicality & boot space
The MG ZS EV has lots of space and a big boot - particularly for an EV
We're used to hybrid and electric cars being compromised slightly by bulky battery packs, but not so in the ZS EV. You do feel slightly perched in its high-set front seats, but passengers in the back in particular, will certainly be glad of the ZS' space compared with a Renault ZOE or a Vauxhall Corsa Electric.
MG ZS EV interior space and storage
The ZS’ SUV body means there’s plenty of space inside. Even with the panoramic sunroof fitted on high-spec models, headroom is good. The storage cubbies and door bins look to be a useful size and MG has taken a leaf out of Skoda’s book by fitting a USB port in the rear-view mirror housing to support a dashcam. As we’ve come to expect on modern cars, the rear seats are split 60:40 to allow long items and passengers to be carried at the same time.
Boot space
The ZS EV is one of the larger small SUVs on the market, and its 470-litre boot should certainly appeal to potential EV buyers who don't want to sacrifice practicality. With 1,100 litres of luggage room with the rear seats folded down, the MG is roomier than a Nissan Leaf and similar to the more expensive Kia Niro EV. The boot is a useful shape and you can move the floor up and down to prioritise either a level surface or maximum space. We’d probably stash the charging cables under the false floor. Roof rails are fitted on Trophy and Trophy Connect trim levels.
Towing
The new ZS EV now offers a 500kg towing capacity. It’s not a lot but will be enough to tow a small trailer or cycle carrier. Rivals such as the Citroen e-C4 can’t tow at all, while the Kia Niro EV can top up to 750kg.
