Range Rover Fifty special edition joins 2020 line-up

• 1,970 to be produced
• Painted in colours used on the original car
• Plug-in hybrid powertrain offered

The Range Rover is getting an exclusive Fifty special edition to commemorate half a century since the car was launched in 1970. Production is limited to 1,970 cars as a result. Prices are yet to be revealed but we’d expect it to cost more than the Autobiography model on which it’s based, a car that costs £103,490 before options.

Aside from the 557bhp SVAutobiography Dynamic, the Autobiography is the top-spec Range Rover. Standard equipment includes a panoramic glass roof, upgraded LED headlights and a high-end stereo system. To mark it out, the new Fifty version features a few exterior trim pieces painted black and two exclusive 22-inch alloy wheel options.

Inside, Fifty badging (designed by boss Gerry McGovern) can be found on the headrests, door threshold plates, dashboard and on a numbered plaque that highlights the model’s limited production run.

Four paint colours will be offered on most of the 1,970 built. The majority of buyers get the choice of Carpathian Grey, Santorini Black, Rosello Red and an Aruba silver colour, but some customers will be allowed to choose three further colours: Tuscan Blue (as shown here), Davos White and Bahama Gold. Land Rover hasn’t revealed why the extra colours are available to a limited number of buyers. These seven colours were all offered on the very first Range Rover.

We’re told the Fifty will be available in standard and long-wheelbase versions, while a selection of the Range Rover’s engines can be chosen. Of these, Land Rover has only revealed that the plug-in hybrid P400e engine will be one of the options.
