Renault Arkana SUV - Reliability & safety
The Arkana uses familiar parts and has a five-star safety score
There are some strong indications that Renault is on the up for reliability. The closely related Renault Captur has scored well with owners, so there's no reason the Arkana shouldn't prove as impressive.
Renault Arkana reliability
It’ll be a little while yet before we get a clear picture of how reliable the Renault Arkana is, but the fact it shares so many parts with the Captur should calm any concerns you might have.
That's especially true thanks to the Captur coming 34th out of the top 75 models in our 2023 Driver Power owner survey, beating many more expensive models. The Captur had really strong scores for reliability and build quality, plus its infotainment and phone connectivity, but received a poor score for its safety features.
Less positively, Renault came 29th out of 32 carmakers considered in the manufacturer standings, a disappointing five-place tumble from 2022. However, its newer models are performing well, far better than the older ones, so that's a good sign. The Clio, Captur and Arkana all represent a big step forward in terms of interior fit and finish. Around 22.5% of Renault owners told us their cars had developed a fault in the first year of ownership, which is slightly above average.
Safety
The Renault Arkana promises to protect its occupants in the event of a collision, with a glowing five-star safety score from Euro NCAP. It scored 96% and 83% for adult and child protection, and its standard safety features and protection of pedestrians and cyclists also gained good scores.
As well as the mandatory airbags, ISOFIX child-seat points and anti-lock brakes, Renault has included advanced safety features like autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane-keeping assist, traffic sign recognition and an E-Call system that notifies the emergency services if you have an accident. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are added on the mid-range Techno trim.
Many drivers will also be glad to see rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, automatic wipers and hill-start assist all fitted as standard, too.
