Audi A3 Cabriolet - Reliability & safety (2014-2020)
The Audi A3 is rated highly by owners and safety in the Cabriolet has been bolstered to make up for the lack of a metal roof
Audi has an excellent reputation for build quality. Carbuyer also ran an A3 saloon (mechanically identical to the Cabriolet) for several months and experienced no serious problems.
Safety body Euro NCAP gave the A3 a five-star crash-test rating, but that score was awarded to the hatchback model. Without a fixed metal roof, the Cabriolet loses some structural integrity compared to the standard car, but it does get a stability control system specifically designed to prevent it flipping over. Also, hidden rollover hoops deploy in a split second to protect the occupants if it does go upside-down.
Audi A3 Cabriolet reliability
The Audi A3 range was rated average for reliability in our 2017 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey of cars currently on sale in the UK. Of the owners who responded, 13.6% reported experiencing a problem with their car at least once.
Owners regard the looks, engine and gearbox and ride and handling of their A3 among its strongest attributes. They're not so impressed with its interior space and practicality, or its running costs and fuel economy.
Safety
The A3 Cabriolet version has all the same safety features as the hatchback, including a full complement of airbags and secondary collision braking assistance, which stops the car moving after a collision, potentially preventing a second impact.
