MPG, running costs & CO2 Rating

3.0 out of 5

The Citroen C4 has a range of efficient engines, although the diesels are preferable because they’re punchy, smooth and efficient. Every C4 registered from 1 April 2017 costs £140 a year in road tax.

Citroen C4 MPG & CO2

The engines of choice in the C4 are definitely the diesels. Even the basic 98bhp 1.6-litre BlueHDi 100 is reasonably punchy while managing an impressive 78.5mpg. It isn't as good as the stop-start version, which can manage up to 85.6mpg while emitting only 86g/km of CO2. There are also more powerful BlueHDi 120 and BlueHDi 150 diesel available with certain trim levels.

All of the petrol cars return more than 55mpg (officially at least), but only one gets more than 60mpg, while CO2 emissions range from 107g/km to 117g/km.

Insurance

There's a big range of Citroen C4 models and engines, so, naturally, a range of insurance costs. The basic petrol model sits in insurance group 16, while the range-topping BlueHDi 120 Flair diesel sits in insurance group 25.

Warranty

The Citroen C4's standard warranty covers the car for three years or 60,000 miles, which is pretty much par for the course. Others do better, though, most notably Toyota with its five-year/100,000-mile cover, and Kia with seven years or 100,000 miles.

Servicing

Petrol C4s need to be fettled by a dealer only every 20,000 miles, but the diesels need to be tended to every 12,500 miles. The good news is that Citroen offers a range of fixed-price servicing plans, not only for when your car is new, but even when it's a few years old and needs an MoT.
