Jaguar F-Type convertible - MPG, running costs & CO2
2.0-litre version has by far the lowest running costs
With a 2.0-litre model added to the range in 2017, the Jaguar F-Type range suddenly became a lot more appealing to many buyers. Its claimed fuel economy of 39.2mpg is impressive for such a sporty car and its 163g/km CO2 emissions figure means a Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rating of 31%, far lower than the larger-engined models.
Jaguar says the most economical V6 will return 33.6mpg and emit 199g/km of CO2, which is almost identical to the equivalent Porsche Boxster and results in a BiK figure of 37% – the highest rate there is, with V8 owners liable for the same penalty.
Of course, if you move up the range to the V6 R-Dynamic, 400 Sport, V8 R and SVR, you'll see fuel economy tumble – but this is part and parcel of owning such powerful cars. The V6 S claims 29mpg, the V8 R 26mpg and the SVR 25mpg but don't expect to see these figures out in the real world, particularly if you enjoy driving your F-Type quickly.
All F-Types will attract road tax of £140 a year plus an additional surcharge of £310 a year for the first five years of ownership due to price tags above the £40,000 threshold. That means you can expect an annual bill of £450 during those years.
Used values are expected to be robust, as demand for the F-Type is high – experts predict all models to retain 50% of their value after three years or 36,000 miles of ownership.
Insurance
As with any high-performance car, insurance is likely to be expensive. All convertible F-Type models fall into insurance group 50. Interestingly, the Porsche 718 Boxster starts in group 44, while some Porsche 911 models are in group 47.
With a car like this, it’s worth contacting your insurance company for a quote prior to making a purchase decision so you can factor the price into the cost of ownership.
Servicing
Servicing costs are on a par with the Jaguar XF and Jaguar XJ luxury executive saloon models. Jaguar Land Rover can offer a service plan to help spread the cost of scheduled servicing.
Warranty
All Jaguars sold in the UK are covered by a three-year/unlimited-mileage warranty, including European roadside assistance. The warranty can be extended at extra cost by arrangement through your Jaguar dealership.
