Peugeot 5008 MPV (2009-2017) - MPG, running costs & CO2
Clever engine technology from elsewhere in the brand’s lineup makes it into the Peugeot 5008 engine range, but it’s not enough to lead this class
Peugeot’s economical PureTech (petrol) and BlueHDI (diesel) technologies are applied to all of the 5008’s engines. But while they’re very efficient, they aren’t quite as good as the most economical Citroen Grand C4 Picasso.
Unfortunately, unlike the smaller 3008, the 5008 isn’t available on Peugeot’s Just Add Fuel finance package, while Peugeot’s low resale values will disappoint some owners when it comes to selling or trading in their car.
Peugeot 5008 MPG & CO2
The most economical engine in the Peugeot 5008 range is the 1.6-litre diesel. This returns 65.7mpg and costs just £30 a year in road tax, thanks to CO2 emissions of 113g/km.
If you want an automatic gearbox, this is only available with the 1.6-litre diesel, but it doesn’t affect road tax or fuel economy.
Do note that in order to meet strict Euro 6 emissions targets, both 5008 diesel engines use AdBlue, a fluid that helps to remove pollutants. This will need topping up from time to time; while most drivers will find this is taken care of during the 5008’s annual services, if you cover more miles than most, you may need to replenish the tank yourself between services.
There’s also a 1.2-litre PureTech 130 petrol engine on offer. It isn’t as economical on fuel as the diesel, managing 52.3mpg and CO2 emissions are at their highest in this model, at 124g/km.
The Citroen Grand C4 Picasso manages to do better than the 5008, with fuel economy reaching as much as 74.3mpg.
Insurance group
Insurance groupings are about average for a car of this size. The small petrol sits in group 13, while the 1.6-litre diesel is group 16 or 17 (depending on which trim you go for).
Warranty
Peugeot’s warranty is lasts for three years or 60,000 miles. This is outdone by the Renault Grand Scenic’s ‘4+’ (four years/100,000 miles) warranty scheme and the Kia Carens’ seven-year/100,000-mile warranty.
Servicing
The 5008’s service schedule is once a year. If you do a lot of miles, it’s worth checking with your dealer about an exact mileage limit on the servicing schedule, because it can vary depending on which engine you have.
