Toyota RAV4 SUV (2013-2019) - Interior & comfort
Lots of headroom and reclining rear seats make the Toyota RAV4 ideal for long trips
The driver’s seat offers lots of adjustment to ensure you can get into a comfortable driving position, more so than the previous model. The steering wheel can also be adjusted.
Materials inside the cabin appear robust and well made, but not particularly stylish. Typically for a Toyota, some of the switches for functions like the electric windows look very dated compared with those in stylish European models, including the Volkswagen Tiguan.
Equipment
A late 2017 update rationalised the RAV4's trim levels, bringing them in line with other Toyota models. Entry-level is now the Icon and even this has a reasonably generous amount of standard equipment that partially justifies its starting price being a little higher than the Ford Kuga and Mazda CX-5.
All models have Bluetooth phone connectivity as standard, along with cruise control, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air-conditioning, a reversing camera, DAB radio, and tinted rear windows. Icon Tech adds sat nav.
The Design version has its own look inside, with alcantara suede decorating the dashboard and door panels, and extra luxuries include heated front seats (electrically adjustable for the driver), while the halogen headlamps are replaced by LED units.
Range-topping Excel introduces voice-activated sat nav with 3D mapping and also adds rear cross-traffic alerts and blind-spot monitoring, as well as black 18-inch alloy wheels and leather upholstery. All models offer Toyota Safety Sense, which brings adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and autonomous emergency braking.
The RAV4 Hybrid wasn't available in entry-level trim originally, but this drivetrian is now offered across the range.
Options
Options include a tow bar, side steps to make getting in and out easier, and mud flaps. For those who like rugged pursuits, the options list also includes rubber mats for the boot and footwells, protective bodywork add-ons, cycle racks and even roof boxes for storing more luggage.
