Skoda Octavia vRS hatchback - MPG, running costs & CO2 (2013-2021)
The Skoda Octavia vRS diesel version gives you low fuel and tax bills, but the Volkswagen Golf GTD is even more fuel-efficient
Impressive fuel economy and easily predicted annual servicing costs mean that Skoda vRS ownership is unlikely to throw up many nasty financial surprises.
Skoda Octavia vRS MPG & CO2
Running a Skoda Octavia vRS won’t cost the Earth, either environmentally or financially, especially when it comes to the diesel version. Its claimed average economy is 50.4mpg, and you should be able to get close to this in everyday driving. It’s worth remembering that the optional four-wheel-drive system reduces the official figure to 45.6mpg. CO2 emissions are 116g/km for the manual and 137g/km for the DSG automatic.
For a 242bhp petrol car, 39.2mpg isn’t at all bad, either, although its CO2 emissions of 154g/km translate to a 34% Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) company-car tax rating, or 32% if you choose the DSG automatic. BiK for the diesel models starts at 31% for the two-wheel-drive car or 35% if you add four-wheel drive.
After the first year's CO2-based road tax (generally included in the on-the-road price), all Skoda Octavias cost £145 a year to tax.
Insurance group
High performance means the vRS is one of the most expensive Skoda cars to insure, but it’s still likely to be less costly than some rivals in this area. The 242bhp petrol model sits in group 28, while the similarly powerful VW Golf GTI is in group 32. Meanwhile, the vRS diesel starts in group 26, with its VW Golf GTD cousin occupying group 27.
Warranty
Like all Skoda models, the vRS comes with a three-year/60,000-mile warranty and 12 years’ anti-corrosion cover. You can also buy an extended four-year/80,000-mile warranty for £255 or a five-year/100,000-mile warranty for £515.
Servicing
The vRS models need a major service every 20,000 miles, with a more minor check due every 12,500 miles. Skoda dealers have a reputation for excellent customer service and a fixed-priced deal on the first two services costs around £300 upfront or roughly £15 a month.
