Today’s hot car deal: Subaru Solterra EV for £276 a month

Our hot deal for December 6 is a great-value lease deal for Subaru’s well-equipped electric SUV, yours for under £280 per month

Subaru Solterra front quarter

Our hot deal for today is an affordable way to lease a brand new electric SUV. The Subaru Solterra packs the four-wheel drive and rugged looks we know and love from the Japanese-marque and, at this low monthly price, we think it's worth some serious consideration.

What’s so good about this Subaru Solterra deal?

The sub-£280 monthly price of this Subaru Solterra deal is what caught our attention. Its sister car, the Toyota bZ4X, has a similar list-price to the Solterra but commands a much higher monthly payment. We spotted this deal at leaseloco.com with a reasonable initial payment of £3,314.64 (plus an arrangement fee of £294), then 23 monthly payments of £276.21 – and that’s for the highest ‘Touring’ trim level.

You’ll be limited to 5,000 miles per year, but we expect this to be just enough for most drivers. If you want to up the mileage to 8,000 miles a year, the monthly payment increases to £310.45 with a £3,725.40 upfront payment.

Being the top-spec ‘Touring’ model, this Solterra includes all the creature comforts you could ask for; there’s a power tailgate, adaptive cruise control, heated seats and a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon stereo, wireless smartphone charging and an electric passenger seat.

What’s so good about the Subaru Solterra?

During our in-depth test of the Solterra, we were struck by just how quiet and comfortable it was on the motorway, with enough power to get up to speed quickly. Heading off the motorway and onto twistier roads, the direct steering and four-wheel drive made navigating country-road corners both easy and enjoyable.

The four-wheel drive platform is shared with the Toyota bZ4X and adds to the Solterra’s capabilities in less-than-ideal conditions; an off-road focused ‘X-Mode’ allows the Solterra to tackle mud, snow or just wet grass. Some rivals may travel further than the Solterra’s maximum 257-mile range, but it can be charged via a 150kW rapid charger, allowing for a 10-80% top up in under 30 minutes.

We were especially impressed by the premium quality of the Solterra’s interior. With a 12.3-inch central infotainment display (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible) alongside a digital instrument cluster, the Solterra has all the digital features expected of a premium electric SUV. Most of the important controls are activated via physical buttons placed on the dashboard rather than being buried in a touchscreen menu, something that some buyers may find particularly useful.

Anything else I need to know about this deal?

This is a lease deal, often referred to as Personal Contract Hire (PCH), so there’s no option to buy the car at the end of the contract. You are effectively renting the car for the two-year term, but the deal is very flexible so you can adjust the term length, mileage limit and initial payment size to suit but only at the outset. Once the deal is over, you just hand the keys back and start looking for your next car.

Our hot deals are carefully selected by our car buying experts and they are all subject to change. Always read the full terms and conditions and make sure the car and the deal suits your needs before proceeding.
