Front passenger and boot space grow, but the Aygo X is cramped in the back seats
The Aygo X has grown slightly over the old Aygo, with its pseudo-SUV styling creating a much more imposing presence on the road. The Aygo X is 25mm wider than before and the wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear wheels) has grown by 90mm; plus, with a driver’s seat that is 55mm higher than the outgoing car’s, it’s even easier to get in and out of.

The first thing you’ll notice stepping into the front of the Aygo X is the extra room for the driver and front passenger. This makes the car feel less cramped than before, with those in the front no longer sitting shoulder-to-shoulder. As is common in most cars of this size, there is no centre armrest, but there are storage cubbies in each of the four doors and a decent-sized glove box.
The news isn't so good in the rear seats. As before, the Aygo X has only two seatbelts back here – the equivalent Kia Picanto can seat three. Headroom and legroom is also at a premium, although this is somewhat expected in this class of car. Really, the rear seats are only suitable for children and small adults for most journeys. While rear doors are welcome, they also have a relatively tight aperture for getting in and out.
Boot space
Thankfully, the boot is a lot more practical; the Aygo X’s boot is 60 litres larger than before, now providing 231 litres of cargo space. This is roomier than the 181 litres found in the electric Fiat 500 and just short of the 252 litres of luggage space in the Hyundai i10. If you are not using the rear seats, both fold flat in a 50/50 split to create a load-lugging 829-litre capacity.
