New Toyota Land Cruiser starts from £74,995 in the UK
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will be sold in limited numbers initially, order books open in July
- Prices start from £74,995
- Retro-styled First Edition costs £79,995
- Available to order from July
The new Toyota Land Cruiser may be tough as nails, but a £74,995 starting price is arguably even tougher to swallow. That represents a rather large leap from the outgoing car’s sub-£50k list price and clearly demonstrates Toyota’s intention to move the rugged SUV upmarket.
The Land Cruiser is now the most expensive model that Toyota sells in the UK by some margin, and is priced within the same ballpark as the Mercedes GLE, the Audi Q8 and the Range Rover Sport. However, that starting price still pales in comparison to the latest Mercedes G-Class, which is nearly twice as expensive.
What do I need to know about the Toyota Land Cruiser?
The new Land Cruiser is the first clean-sheet redesign of the famous nameplate since 2009 and has introduced plenty of modern upgrades, along with a general uplift in refinement. The boxy looks and go-anywhere capability remain, however, and there are few SUVs as confident off-road as the Land Cruiser. We had the chance to test a Land Cruiser in the Scottish Highlands earlier this year and were thoroughly impressed by its capabilities on and off-road, although we felt refinement lagged behind the Land Rover Defender.
Speaking of, the Defender is perhaps the Land Cruiser’s closest competitor. It has the off-road chops to match the Toyota, but during our in-depth test we felt that it made for a better road car, with a more luxurious cabin and better ride quality around town. The five-door Defender 110 starts from under £64,000, although the Land Cruiser comes with more standard kit, including seven seats, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a head-up display.
For now, there’s only one engine option for the Land Cruiser: a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel four-cylinder, shared with the Toyota Hilux pick-up truck. They both produce the same 200bhp, although the engine feels more refined in the Land Cruiser. A mild hybrid engine will join the lineup in 2025.
How much does the new Toyota Land Cruiser cost and when can I order one?
There are two trim levels on offer, with the Invincible model serving as the entry point at £74,995. For the retro-themed styling with round headlights and two-tone paint, you’ll have to upgrade to the Land Cruiser First Edition, which commands an extra £5,000 over Invincible.
First customers will be able to place an order in July, although the Land Cruiser will be sold in limited numbers initially due to high demand. The lucky few who get an early allocation should expect their new Land Cruiser to be delivered from September this year.
