Toyota RAV4 hybrid owner reviews

“The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is practical and safe, but its small battery puts it at a serious disadvantage next to plug-in hybrid SUVs”

Our RAV4 spins its wheels in the wet all the time and does not install confidence in the driver. The fuel economy figures have not been reflected in a city like Edinburgh and overall the hybrid engine is great for going down hill but totally useless going up hills. The boot is hampered with a lip that sits just behind the rear seats, probably for the batteries. The sat nav will inform the driver that the speed limit is 30mph but the on screen computer will state 20 mph. It's been back to the dealer for repair but their response was poor.

This was bought to replace a series of Volvo V70/XC 70 series estates. Pros: not a diesel, unexpectedly smooth, quiet and vibration free (compared to my previous diesels), comfortable and roomy, reasonable fuel economy (low 40s MPG if cold start and lots of electrics in use, 47-52 in summer and a light right foot, best ever of 59 MPG over 50 miles of rural A-roads) , solid build quality, long warranty, has a spare wheel, navigation/infotainment system works well, excellent visibility Cons: poor sound system quality (better quality one a cost option in US but not UK), step in boot over batteries, understeer, trim functional rather than luxurious. I find that we are using this as the default vehicle in our household as it is so versatile and has the usual Toyota sense of unburstability. There is enjoyment to be had in creeping along in traffic or being in a jam without needing the petrol engine. Friends comment favourably when passengers.

I've had my RAV4 for about 6 months now and I am completely satisfied with the handling and performance. It's nice and quiet, picks up speed well and is very comfortable. It's fitted with everything I need, like sat nav, a reversing camera, automatic boot lid, heated seats etc. Lovely and high up driving position. I had a few issues when I first got it but the dealer put a new battery in and I've had no problems since. The car has done 44,000 miles and looks like it has just come out of the showroom. I love it – I am 75 years old and can confirm in all my years this is the best car I have had.
What's the one thing you like most about your car?
Comfortable, good visibility and nice and high up driving position.
If you could improve one thing, what would it be?
The infotainment screen in the car is too small. For using the sat nav, it could have done with being much bigger.
