Vauxhall Grandland (2017-2024) review - Reliability & safety
Excellent safety ratings, and it seems the Vauxhall Grandland is pretty good to live with
Euro NCAP toughened up its testing procedures not so long ago, so the Vauxhall Grandland's full five-star result from this independent safety body is all the more impressive.
While it’s not identical to the car on sale now, the Vauxhall Grandland X’s performance in our 2024 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey wasn’t too bad, with the model coming 15th for running costs and 13th for its engines. Practicality ranked 16th, but the Granland’s infotainment dragged it down a bit, because it only came 33rd here, while a 31st place for quality and reliability wasn’t much better
Vauxhall Grandland reliability
Sharing a platform with the Peugeot 3008 means the Grandland has been engineered with the collective wisdom of two significant car makers, but while Peugeot came sixth out of 32 manufacturers in our 2024 Driver Power poll, Vauxhall could only manage 26th place.
Less impressive, unfortunately, was Vauxhall's performance in our 2023 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, which rated the company somewhat below average.
Safety
There are fewer reservations where the Grandland's safety credentials are concerned. Euro NCAP gave it the full five stars, with 84% adult occupant and 87% child occupant scores. As cars tend to post lower scores for the safety afforded to children than for adults, this is an impressive result.
The Grandland's 60% score in the safety assist category is down partly because of autonomous emergency braking (AEB) not being standard across the range when it was tested. In the UK, however, AEB is fitted to all facelifted Grandlands.
Safety kit is bolstered in higher trims, with Ultimate bringing adaptive Pixel Matrix headlights, along with blind-spot alerts, advanced park assist and a 360-degree camera. Highway integration assist is also included, which can keep pace with other traffic on the motorway and helps keep the Grandland central in its lane.
