New Vauxhall Grandland GSe is a 296bhp and 217mpg SUV
The latest addition to Vauxhall’s GSe sub-brand of performance plug-in hybrids joins the Astra GSe hatchback and estate
- Available to order in early 2023
- Joins Astra GSe in the performance sub-brand
- 296bhp PHEV powertrain
The Grandland GSe will join the Astra GSe from next year, giving car buyers the choice of a hatchback, estate, or SUV from the Vauxhall’s new GSe performance brand. The Grandland GSe will feature the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the Astra, but with a combined power output of 296bhp. Despite its SUV proportions, it will be faster than the smaller 222bhp Astra, with a 0-62mph time of just 6.1 seconds.
The new Grandland GSe will take on hot SUV competitors like the Volkswagen Tiguan R, but with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Grandland will be much more efficient – it has provisional economy figures of 217mpg and 29-31g/km. It won’t be without a direct competitor, however, because the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 300 creates the same power and identical acceleration figures.

To stand out from the rest of the range, the Grandland GSe gets a unique set of 19-inch wheels and subtle styling tweaks, including a rear bumper with a unique diffuser. There’s also the option of a contrasting black bonnet for buyers who want their Grandland GSe to stand out.
Inside, there will be a new set of supportive Alcantara-trimmed sports seats that have been developed to be more supportive and comfortable. The steering has been revised for a more sporty feel, while new suspension has been chosen to provide a more responsive driving experience. The revised suspension will also make the Grandland more stable at high speeds and offer better balance through corners, according to Vauxhall.
The Grandland GSe will become the most powerful model within the GSe sub-brand, with 70bhp more than the Astra GSe. It will also feature permanent all-wheel drive for “optimum traction and class-leading acceleration from a standstill”.
James Taylor, Managing Director of Vauxhall, said: “Following the reveal of the All-New Astra GSe and All-New Astra Sports Tourer GSe, the New Grandland GSe Plug-in Hybrid is a fantastic addition to our new electrified performance sub-brand, as we work towards offering a fully electric vehicle line-up by 2028.”
Prices have yet to be confirmed, however, we expect an increase over the range-topping plug-in hybrid Grandland, which is priced at around £41,000. You can expect to see the new Grandland GSe in showrooms early next year.
